My first

Ok, so I've looked at a list of parts I need and have selected what I think (notes that what I think isn't what is good) except for a few items. Could yall look over what I have and give suggestions to help supply what I don't have on the list? I'm looking to build a good gaming computer because my laptop just doesn't cut it. It is also going to be my main computer so I can use my laptop for school purposes.

Thanks much
dbooney.

Get a separate power supply, check the PSU thread for more info, but generally some good brands are Antec, FSP, Thermaltake, or XClio. Also, I'd go with a socket 939 mobo and processor, or socket AM2. As far as your graphics card goes, you really don't need to spend THAT much money for the 8800 yet in my opinion. Go with Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, or Patriot ram.

No use going for a socket 754 build - they are barely available and pretty obsolete.

Your best bet is a Core 2 Duo build by Intel. How is this for a rough start?

Core 2 Duo E6300 or E6600
Asus P5B or P5B Deluxe
1gb or 2gb Corsair DDR2-667
Sapphire X1950Pro
250gb Seagate 7200.10
Case of your choice
Corsair HX520w
XP Home
Retail Lite-On

Do you really need a modem?

The integrated audio on the motherboard should be very sufficient.
