New Build, No Video Display
I am a first time builder of a computer and built one for my son for Christmas, who wants to use this for gaming, more specifically World of Warcraft. Unfortunately the video will not come up.
Been troubleshooting this one all week between several people and several manufacturers. Here is my original list of components: (all purchased through newegg.com) Motherboard: ASUS P5NSLI 570 lga775 667 Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13 GHz Memory: PQI turbo 2 GB (2 x GB), ddr2 sdram PSU: ePower Zumax ZU550Watt (with pci express connectors) 20 + 4 pin power connector + an additional 4 pin connector. Graphics: eVGA GeForce 7600GT, 256 MB ddr3 Case: Cooler Master Centurion 534 HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE16 250 GB SATA Monitor: Samsung 20" wide screen SpecMaster 205BW 1st swap: Memory: Corsair VS2GBKIT 667D2 2nd swap: Graphics: BFX GeForce 6600 OC 512 MB ddr2 3rd swap: Graphics: PNY GeForce 7900 GS Put everything together and it powers up just fine. Lights work, fans work, stand by light on motherboard lights, keyboard lights flash, hdd spins, but the monitor isn't displaying so I cannot even see if it is posting. Thought it was the memory so I contacted PQI who told me that the memory I had was not compatible with the board. I checked on Corsair's website, found VS2GBKIT667D2 was compatible and ordered this. Installed new memory, same issue. Thought maybe the ddr3 on the graphics card was the issue, so I purchased a BFX GeForce 6600 OC pci express card, but same issue still exists. Then through some help with troubleshooting, thought it might be the monitor needed a more powerful card to display, so I purchased one that has to plug into the power supply, the PNY GeForce 7900 GS, and of course the same issue still exists. I have unplugged and replugged in all the connections on the motherboard. I have taken out the graphics card and reseated it. I have done the same to the memory. I have taken the memory completely out to hear the motherboard error beep (1 long one) which happened, so ASUS believes the board is working fine. I have connected the monitor to the graphics card via the analog cable, the dvi cable and used the analog to DVI adapter, same issue I have connected the computer to a known good VGA monitor working for the past 4 years, still no video display I have removed all the extra components so that all that was booting up was the motherboard I have removed the single/dual video card detector from the motherboard with the graphics card in, booted up, then replaced it again and booted up. I have contacted eVGA, ASUS, PQI but all these people are just tier 1 support reading from a script until they cannot answer any more questions. I have been checking on the internet for others who have the same issues, and seem to notice a pattern with SLI boards, is this possible? Could it be that the processor is not compatible with the board? I was on the Intel site but it is not very user friendly and was not able to find a compatibility list like I can on the memory manufacturers websites. As you might imagine, I am getting very frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated Racky4 |

Did you install the drivers? Had to ask.

That would be pretty hard if there was no video showing up, hehe.
![]() Remove everything from the case and try this: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 - that helps solve many problems. If nothing else works I would rule out the motherboard or the power supply - the power supply seems to be low quality.

Yes, I removed the mb last night and placed it on a cardboard box, booted up, same issues. Have two more thoughts from reading other forums.
1) possible the memory needs to be reduced to 533 (one person on anothe forum with my mb did this and it worked), and maybe putting in 512 modules instead of 2 1024 modules. Also notable, on the corsair website, on the main page, when I do the memory configurator for my mb, the list of compatible memory does NOT list my memory, yet when I do the search in reverse, and put in the part number for my memory, it lists my mb as compatible. I am leaning towards this being a discrepancy on Corsairs part 2) power supply. We checked the voltages for the 20 + 4 and the extra 4 against the spec sheet and the only inconsistency I see is on the right side, the pin that is supposed to be negative 12 volts is a negative 11.57, not sure if this could create an issue or not. Any thoughts?? |

So are you seeing anything on the monitor? You can't touch any settings or view any settings such as them ones you're describing without entering the BIOS.

Correct, whether I boot up with a crt or a flat panel, dvi alone or dvi to analog, I am still receiving the 'no signal display'.
I am on my way to buy 4 sticks of 512 kingson ram which is on the qvl in the asus motherboard book. Lets see if this makes any difference. I am also going from 667 to 533 Mhz. |

follow up
I changed the power supply from a Zumax (ePower) ZU550Watt to an Antec650Watt with no luck. Also changed the memory again to two 512 modules from Kingston (on the qvl list in the motherboard manual, and confirmed on www.kingston.com) Only used 2 because Best Buy didn't have the other two. Should still be enough to boot up. But again, no luck. After ruling everything else out, it has to be the motherboard. Calling newegg tomorrow for an RMA

Epowers are *NOT* low quality power supplies.

When I was doing my research, I was told it was a decent power supply from one knowledgeable person, and one that I really should go with a better name in power supplies by another.
I think I am going to have to agree on this one, and even after going to the website, the manufacturer themselves qualify this as an 'entry level gaming an desktop power supply', but it is not in the grouping of gaming power supplies. Reviews were good, but I am not convinced. http://www.epowertec.com/powersupply.htm Zumax Series ¡@ Zumax series power supply is the entry level gaming and desktop power supply it give competitive pricing with stable power. |

Do the basic out of case built with the video card in the primary video slot(closest to the CPU).SATA drive in SATA 0 slot, double check that the CPU heat sink is fully latched in(all 4 corners), no USB devices or flash memeory readers connected. With power unplugged, pull the battery on the motherboard for 5 minutes and reinstall. Now power back up and see what you get.

you could also try taking off the heatsink and making sure none of the pins are bent on the cpu and makesure the heatsink is seated properly
