My first build, a few questions.

I am going to build me a new computer. This will be my first computer I build. Although I consider myself pretty computer literate, why don’t you look at what I have picked out and tell me if it looks good. I didn’t include a mother board as that’s an area I am completely alien too. I didn’t know any of the brands, there was a lot of selection ect ect. If you could tell me some good motherboard brands and such and things too look out for (Already know ill need LGA 775 cpu socket type) Perhaps give me a few to look at it. I plan on over clocking (something else I am new to) so I need a board that is good to over clock. And hopefully my components I have picked out are good for over clocking but if they aren’t by all means say so.

System Specs

Case: COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel, SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

DVD/CD: SAMSUNG Black 18X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 18X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache E-IDE/ATAPI DVD Burner – OEM

HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000KS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

RAM: OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

Power: Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 ATX12V 650W Power Supply with Three 12V Rails 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, FCC, TUV, CE, C-tick, CCC, CB - Retail

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz 2M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail

GPU: BFG Tech BFGR7950512GTOCE GeForce 7950GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 OC Video Card - Retail

Just a couple questions….

The power supply I have picked out seems very high, although I know its important to get a quality power supply I think 120 bucks is pushing it. If I could get a quality one for under a hundred bucks that would be nice.

If I plan on over clocking my CPU should I go with a low end Core 2 Duo or get a high end one anyways?

Anyways I know how to build the computer and stuff. But if you have any tips having built many computers that might help me by all means say so, any advice is appreciated.

Get an Asus P5B series motherboard. Get a retail boxed DVD burner so you get software, look at Lite-Ons. Get a Seagate 7200.10 hard drive. The E6300 is enough processor if you need to save some money, otherwise get the E6600 to get the extra cache. Corsair XMS2 CAS 5 is the best bet on DDR2-800 ram for that setup. I will defer to Mr. Ferrari for current power supply recommendations, but that Antec is a good one.
