A8N-E slow?

I have just built a computer with MB ASUS A8N-E. Everything works fine but it doesn't seem much faster than my 800mHz Pentium 3 Dell. I have heard this MB was pretty fast but I can't tell the difference. I have not tried to play any games to test it yet. Is there a way to test the speed of the computer compared to my old one. Is getting a 3D game a good way to test it. I am using a HD from my old computer 7200 speed I think, would getting a new HD help.

Did you install drivers (ie, video, chipset, etc)?

Also, the motherboard doens't have a huge impact on performance. CPU/RAM/video make a bigger difference. But yeah, with a much faster CPU (compared to a P3) it should be faster. But if you were comparing the ASUS to another board, I doubt there'd be a huge difference. Is it sluggish or anything?

No, it's not really sluggish and I have loaded all the drivers that came on the CD. I just thought it would be super fast as compared to my 800mHz Pentium 3 Dell. I can tell it's a little faster just not lighting speed. I will try and run a 3D game on it this weekend. I don't have a 3D game so I will have to find one I like or maybe just download a demo. Another thing I may try is getting a new HD and upgrading the RAM to 1G. Still it is a pretty nice computer.

Thad, I have no doubt it is faster due to having a VERY similar system in the past. I will say though, that if you can swing it, upping the system memory to 1Gb will have a DEFINATE improvement. FWIW.

I have the same motherboard and processor, but I have 1GB of memory, two 512MB sticks to take advantage of dual channel feature. I think also your video card is a bottleneck. Did I read that right, it's PCI?

The video card would bottleneck in games, but not in general web surfing...
