2nd build ftw?

Good to be back in the wonderful world of PC's and PcMech again. It's been awhile since I messed with building a PC. The one I have is "acceptable" but I want another one and I enjoy messing around with them. =D I missed quite a few compatability(sp) problems on the first build and wanted to to run this by you guys. Few things I'm just going to throw in. I have XP pro planned for it. So I didn't forget the OS. I have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, ect. I also hear alot about how sleeve fans are no good, I'm gonna go with them anyways because I have had the same sleeve fans since I built my first PC and they still work great. (Guess I'm lucky there.) I have a Asus motherboard now and havent had a problem with it at all so I would prefer to stay with them, as well as the OCZ ram I have had no problems with them before. Wondered about the PSU though, can't find anything wrong with it but I've been wrong before. The video card is ASUS as well I've never had an Nvidia before so for brand I went with ASUS becasue I've not had problems with them before. But as I said, I've never used Nvidia before, so if there is a better choice let me know please. And the CPU I've heard mixed remarks over Dual-Core so input on that would be great. I can't see a real reason (for me at least) for two opticals so I only have the one. And I only want one HDD instead of running two. To much of a hassle for me. Integrated sound I can deal with. I am hoping to sometime go SLI if and when the card prices drop, not a need to though. Gaming will be a big part of usage but it will be used with a lot of programs and datasheets running at once. Just any thoughts comments, ect. would be welcome.

Thx in advance.

Why get an old NF4 chipset SLI board when you are getting a single killer video card? Get an Asus P5B and Corsair XMS2 ram. SLI on Intel just isn't quite right - and SLI is mostly just a marketing gimmick anyway.

There are better PSU's than Hiper for the money.

The Sony DVD burner is a waste of money - Lite-Ons are 10 bucks cheaper and essentially the same drives. Get a retail boxed one to get the software.

Don't get a 7200.9 - get a 7200.10 hard drive.

Save 200 bucks and get a E6600.

Scrapped the whole SLI thing, reviews for the 8800 sli wasnt that much of an improvement anyway. So i went with a motherboard without 2xPCI-e so I won't even be able to go SLI.
Heres the changes

The .10 is the new perpendicular recording drive. It's faster and more efficient.

I don't think you want to trust an 8800 to that power supply either. You are spending good bucks on everything else, don't cheap out on a power supply. Look in the $100 range.

Consider the eVGA 8800GTX - they make good cards as well as Asus and the Asus seems to be the most expensive.

Have you considered the P5B Deluxe motherboard? They are both good anyway.

No comment on the power supply since I don't follow requirements but I can tell you that you'll want at least 550w-650w from a quality manufacturer, Antec, OCZ, Seasonic, FSP, etc.

If your going with a single 8800gtx, the minimum powersupply that im comfortable with is the Corsair HX 520W.

Liked the PSU but found this Enermax 550w with great amps on the rails. Especially for the +12. 36a.

I think I like the Corsair HX520 better still - it is modular and very high quality with a stable flow of power (not to degrade that Enermax one in anyway, I'm sure it's a great power supply).

The enermax is not a bad choice. But I stilll highly suggest the corsair over it. The Enermax is showing its age, the Corsair will be quieter, more stable, and just overall better. The Enermax is not quite in the same league.

Mr. Ferrari, I trust your opinion way more than another's from a Google search (who said 620w Corsair I think), but 520w is really enough for an 8800GTX? I thought they were really power hungry, but I guess it is just the amps, right?
