Tuniq Tower 120

I've been reading around and the Tuniq Tower 120 comes highly recommended for overclocking purposes. I'm thinking about getting it, but I'm concerned about the weight of the Heatsink, especially considering how the weight is distrubuted so far away from the motherboard. I'm worried that that kind of torque could damage my motherboard when moving, etc. Am I just being overly cautious or should I go with a different cooler, say Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro?

Unless you have a case that can handle it and are into some serious OC then the AC Freezer many be a better option. If you read some of the reviews on Newegg, people had to do some modding to make it work.

Yes, it totally depends on how far you are planning to go. Mild to medium oc's will probally be ok with the freezer, but the Tuniq has a great mounting system to make up for its weight. It also comes with an excellent fan.

If your worried I would first start out with the AC and upgrade if you need to.

Can the Freezer Pro typically handle an overclock of the E6600 up to 3.6ghz or E6400 to 3.2-3.4ghz? If not, are there any other good HS/fan combos that you would recommend that aren't as heavy the Tower? I'll be building my new system using the Centurion 5 CAS. That should be large enough for the Tuniq if I do decide to go that way, shouldn't it? I'll try and make sure I don't get a motherboard with a backplate or massive northbridge heatsink if I do get the Tuniq.

My thought process is I want to get a good cooling solution now and not have to worry about installing another one down the line. If the AC Freezer is good enough, then I'll probably go with that.

Like I said before, with the Tuniq I have this horrible mental image of when I move this spring from Utah to Las Vegas of the vibration of the car combined with the weight of the tuniq wrecking havoc on my motherboard....

If making a household type move, two ways to handle a large heatsink: pack the inside of the case with bubble wrap or remove the heatsink for the move; just leaving it on and your image will come true. If your system is to stay in one place after the move, go for the Tuniq.

It's possible, but I wouldn't bet on it. Reading around, most folks can get a 6600 to 3.4ish on air,and a 6400 to 3.0-3.2 on air, but temps tend to get out of hand any higher. And that is WITH top end coolers like the Tower. I found an excellent alternative to the Tower (which I had the same concerns about) to be the Thermalright SI-128 in my sig. I lapped it and installed it. Currently, with room temps of 21C, my idle temps are 35-37C and load temps are 42-43C. It is lighter and lower profile than the Tower, so there isn't as much stress on the mobo. I am getting those temps with the CPU currently clocked at 3.06Ghz (340X9), with stock vcore. I haven't had time to push it harder yet, but I ramped it up to that in about a half hour, and ran Orthos for 13 hours without issue.

You *should* be able to use the stock Intel cooler if you don't jack up the Vcore.
