Are these parts compatible?
Hi, im not totally new here had an older account with 70+ posts but i forgot pass (lol). So im Just wondering if these parts would be compatible with each other. I would also like to know if an intel processor would be better for my main use of this computer which would be gaming.

For AMD AM2 socket systems need to use DDR2 800 for stabilty. Don't need a Sli motherboard if using an ATI video card.
Wouldn't use the PSU that comes with the case, Aspire PSUs are not that good. The Intel Core 2 Duo is top dog at the moment.

Motherboard: Asus P5B
RAM: Corsair ValueSelect DDR2-667 Hard Drive: Get an OEM, Seagate 7200.10s are very good Power supply: You should never use the one that comes in Apevia cases - they are junk, and could very well permanently damage your hardware. I recommend Antec, FSP, or Seasonic

That looks fine. Switch the hard drive to a Seagate 7200.10 series with SATA.

Okay, now I have a couple of things that need to be quickly changed:
Motherboard: The P5B vanilla (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131030) is a better choice for you since you don't need onboard video. Hard drive: The Seagate 7200.10 is an excellent drive. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148144)' Some people may disagree with your power supply choice, but all the Antec I've used have been awesome and they have a good background, so we will see what others say. They ARE on the recommended list. Last edited by newbuilder14; 01-14-2007 at 07:45 PM. |

Looks fine to me - do you need a sound card? If so, look into the X-Fi series cards. Seasonic and Silverstone make good power supplies, too.

The general rule of thumb is to hold off buying a sound card at first. Try the onboard sound, it is good enough for most people. Then order a card if you decide you need one.
