new build from used parts boot no video
I have a newly assembled pc config that starts up when power button is activated, but produces no video signal (monitor just sits there saying check cable). obviously, i have tried checking the cable, and the video card, and everything else (it would seem). seriously, i have swapped out the power supply, the memory, disconnected all drives, swapped video cards, swapped hard drives, and even with only the video card, memory, and hard drive connected, still get the same problem. I have even tried disconnecting the case wires for LED's and switches, and starting the computer by jumping the power switch posts with a screwdriver, thinking maybe the wiring in the case was faulty. I have tried disconnecting power, and setting the jumper to clear the cmos too.
Any ideas... please!!!? ECS K7S5A Athlon XP 1700 256 mb PC133 mem 40 gb western digital 7200rpm drive 32 mb riva tnt2 agp video also tried a pci video card 250W power supply (also tried 350W working ps) Last edited by dc73; 01-14-2007 at 11:55 PM. |

ECS is a very unrelilable motherboard brand. It could be what is causing your problem, although if those PSU's aren't on the good list (http://www.forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 ), then they could be causing the problem too.

The TNT2 doesn't need a powerhouse. However, any Athlon with a video card should have at LEAST 300 watts. If your 350 is a reasonably decent brand, it should be fine. The 250 will not cut it.
The K7S5A actually wasn't that bad a board - it's one of ECS's better efforts. However, it was a bit quirky and long term reliability is still questionable. |
