New build - verify PS and parts please...

This is a new build for a friend coming off a P3 system. This is just a basic internet PC. My friend wants to be able to "multitask and burn cds." Budget is $400 or less. Plan to use floppy drive and cd-rw from old pc.

Antec case with 350W Smart Power power supply:

Western Digital 80 GB Sata 3.0 HDD

Corsair Value Select 2x512 MB PC3200 RAM

Windows XP Home

Biostar GForce 6100-M9 Socket 939 Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice

Just want to make sure the Power Supply is sufficient and verify all is ok for the build. I know this isn't a powerful rig and the supply is an Antec, but 350W still seems skimpy.

Thanks folks.

If only using on-board video, the 350w supply is plenty.
Biostar would not be my first choice but the uATX 939 socket mobo selection is pretty thin. I would say Asus but the ones that Newegg has use Uli or Via chipsets.

i prefer ASUS myself, but like you said, the choices are slim, and also, this is a budget system and the biostar is a budget board. I chose the biostar because i've read decent reviews on it on some of the hardware sites.

Thanks for the reply. hopefully this works out.

Yeah, no ASUS boards with Nvidia chipsets and onboard video left at the 'egg.

I'd be tempted to suggest this Foxconn board - they are a decent manufacturer (I believe they are the OEM for Intel boards), and it has a newer Nvidia chipset (6150). Just a couple of dollars more than the Biostar.

The parts you picked look good for a basic system.

thanks, i'll check it out. I did have the processor and biostar configured as a combo deal, so going to the foxconn will also take the price up for the processor. I think the total is gonna be like $20 more which is gonna make this build even more over budget. Its already $20 over after shipping, which i'm going to eat..

Think its worth it for the new newer chipset?

For $20 over-budget, no. The Biostar is still a decent quality board and has very similar features, only subtle differences between them, like the slightly older chipset, and 2 less SATA ports are the only significant differences I can see.
