problem with first booting
i put together a pc myself plugged the monitor into the video card, plugged in the cords, keyboard and mouse
turned it on, the lights came on but nothing shows on the monitor. the monitor even says no signal i turned the power off, took the cords off opened the case, made sure the video card and memory were in tight closed the case, plugged everything in again turned it on, after a few sec it turned itself off and now there's a funny smell.... i think the smell might have came from the power supply but there's no way to be sure i tried turning it on again but now NOTHING happens does anyone know whats wrong with it? or know someplace tat can help me fix this? thanks |

It's possible the power supply died, Ultra isn't a very good brand (PC Mech reviewed Ultra power supplies and 3 out of 4 they sent were DOA). I would replace that power supply before doing anything else.

None were DOA - 2 were unstable, one worked fine, and I have the 4th and haven't even taken it out of the box yet.
However, if you have a burnt odor, it's very likely the PSU. ECS motherboards don't have a good reputation for quality control either. You need to follow the steps in the out of box thread. |

Make sure all of the power connections are made. I see on your mother board that they block off 4 pin on the 24 pin ATX. Pull the cover off and connect the full 24 pin connector. Also, the other square 4 pin power connector to the mother board. The Molex connector next to the video card slot I believe is to be used for dual/Sli configuration. The video card prbably requires a power connection from the PSU. Make sure that the CPU heatsink is fully latched in on all 4 corners.

What brand and model is the replacement PSU?
Some reasons for no video with new build: Bad or weak PSU Both power connections to mother board not connected or fully seated Video card not fully seated External power from the PSU to the video card(if required) Ram incomaptable or bad |

its ultra 500w
cant be the RAM ....in the MOBO manuel it says: Following DDR2 memory modules have been tested and qualified DDR2 533, 256MB and 512MB; DDR2 667, 512MB (it lists some brands one is corsair so tat parts fine) mine is: Corsair TWINX 1024MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz (2X512) i made sure the video cards seated in there several times. i plugged in the 6slot power cord to the GC and a 4 slot aux plug on the MOBO thats supposed to be for the GC |

The Aux plug by the video card is to be used if running dual video cards. With a single card, don't need it/already have the 6pin to the GC.
Yes, the ram you have is compatable but it still could be faulty/ try 1 stick of ram at a time. |

When you did the out of case, did you start with the bare minimum: PSU/mother board/CPU and case speaker. Nothing else. When booting, should get beeps.

Sounds like the motherboard died. Pull the video card to check for burn marks. Hopefully the video card is OK.

didnt see any burnt marks, guess i gotta send the mobo back :/
still doesnt solve my first problem of not getting display >< i heard i should try the components on someone else's computer to see which one's broken but the GC instructions say i had to remove the programs for the previous GC to install the new one i dont want to have to delete someone else's programs, so will i still get something on the monitor even if i dont delete their GC programs? should i only try memory and GC or r there other stuff i should also test .. like cpu maybe? |
