Vista Ready Build...look ok?
Hey. So this is my 3rd build...however by far the most powerful! Heres what I have right now:
LOGISYS Transparent Clear Acrylic ATX Case ASUS P5B LGA 775 Intel P965 Expressl Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) eVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Broadway Com Corp Okia-black-650 ATX 650W Power Supply MITSUMI Cold Gray 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive ASUS Beige 2M Cache E-IDE/ATAPI DVD Burner w/ LightScribe Technology Creative Inspire P7800 90 Watts 7.1 Speaker I also plan to use Windows Vista Home Premium on this system, and I am still looking for a soundcard. Does anybody have any advice on a good one? I assume creative labs would go best with these speakers, but I want to make sure that it sounds great and stereo mp3s are able to be played in 7.1. Does everything look ok? Does anybody see any problems or a way to either save some money or gain some performance? Thanks!! Last edited by Rangerbob86; 01-20-2007 at 10:05 PM. |

Do you plan on some serious overclocking? If not go for some Corsair XMS2 or Corsair Valueselect. And swap that hard drive out for a Seagate 7200.10 Sata.
That psu is of poor quality. Don't cheap out on one or else you'll feel sorry later. I suggest a Silverstone ST50EF or Corsair 520W HX as minimum. I suggest a retail lite-on drive.

ok I changed the PSU to a SILVERSTONE ST50EF-Plus ATX 12V 2.2 500W Power Supply...I didnt think I had a very good one picked out. As for the hard drive and dvd-rw drive...I dont think Im very worried about all of that...those arent really my main components. as for the memory, no I dont plan on huge overclocking however I probably will a little bit...will this memory still do the job?
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 Thanks! |

500w is probably low for a setup like yours if you want to upgrade in the future. I would look into units of higher wattage from Seasonic or Silverstone. It may power your setup as is, but I recommend you give yourself some more headroom.

It's not the wattage, NB - it's the rail amps and overall quality. A strong 500w PSU will power any single card made. Let's not get so locked into the watt rating, that's only one of several factors that needs to be looked at.

Hey. Thanks for all the help. I understand what you are all saying about the PSU, and I think I have decided to go with this one:
SILVERSTONE SST-ST60F ATX 600W Power Supply Its got 600W instead of 500w just in case, and it also seems to be of high quality. Does this look good? Also, I still need a good soundcard! Any ideas? Last edited by Rangerbob86; 01-21-2007 at 11:17 AM. |

It is a high quality built unit yes, but im not a fan of that particular model due to odd rail power division. Sometimes it works out great, and other times it screws up. Truthfully you dont need more then that 500w, but if your budget has been increased, then you'd mind as well go for this:
Corsair 520W. You could try onboard sound first and see how that works out. If not, if your gonna spend money on a soundcard you should be prepared to shell out. I suggest the X-Fi XtremeMusic if you do. |

520w would defintaly be able to handle all of that, and also have room for improvment? Probably not huge upgrades but things like PCI cards and such

This powersupply has more power on it's 12v rail's then most 600w psu's do. It will handle your setup plus upgrades without breaking a sweat.
It'll even handle a graphic card upgrade to a 8800gtx. |
