1st Time Build... Can anyone check?
Hi, this is my first time building a pc from scratch. I have compiled a list of the necessary parts that I would need. Can anyone check the products out and give me some tips/comments/suggestions? Thanks for the help!

Looks good to me. I'd switch that hard drive out for this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148144
Also, a GeForce 5500 is not enough for gaming and will really bottleneck your overall gaming performance. Can you stretch for one of these to hold you over? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133192 Also, the difference between the E6300 and the E6400 is not enough to warrant the price difference. If you aren't overclocking then you wouldn't make use of the higher multiplier either. The general rule of thumb is that the best bang for the buck Core 2 Duos are the E6300 and E6600.

Thanks for the advice, I'll change my hdd to the one you suggested.
I also switched to E6300. I probably won't overclock my cpu... so a .27 GHz won't matter much. I really like the E6600 though.. too bad it's in the $3xx, otherwise I might consider it... As for the graphics card you suggested... It's still expensive . I probably should just get the 8800 GTS. Because the price probably isn't going to go down any time soon, and like you said, the 5500 will really bottleneck my performance. What do you think of this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130071 It's the cheapest (and one w/ good reviews) 8800GTS I could find. Thanks a lot for your help I'm really new at this, so I don't know much... hopefully I don't destroy my pc by accident when I start building it ![]() Edit: Oh, by the way, should I consider any extras (fans, accessories, etc.)? |

Swap that powersupply out for this one, its $5 cheaper and better as far as quality goes:
Silverstone ST56F And if your not overclocking, swap that memory out for some Corsair Valueselect DDR2 667

Mr. F: How's the cable length on that Silverstone? The P180 needs extra long cables. The Neo HE is recommended by Antec for that reason. What about a Seasonic S12-500?
I'd personally spend the $90 for that 7600GS and WAIT several months for the DX10 dust to clear. That will let you get the E6600 now maybe? |

Very good point GLC. We'll supposedly all of the connectors on the Silverstone above are no less then 21'', the sata and molex are even bigger. That's actually beats the the NeoHE series by two inch's on its main connectors.
The Seasonic does come a bit short, it's atx connector is 16'' and the 4pin is 18'', both smaller then the NeoHe, so you might have to use an extension cable. Last edited by Mr.Ferrari; 01-21-2007 at 11:53 AM. |

Thanks a lot guys, you've been a great help. After talking to my dad about the budget and considering your suggestions, I've made some changes to my original list. Perhaps you can help out with this one too?
I really appreciate it, thanks ![]() Also Mr. F, I think I just might overclock my sys. I read some articles on overclocking and it seems rather harmless (besides lower the hardwares' life duration). I guess I was relunctant to overclock before because my tech friend told me all the negative sides of it. GRAND TOTAL: $1277.29 + Shipping Operating Sys - Windows Vista + ~~$200-$300 ? My dad should approve of the price... If not, I'll switch the CPU from E6600 to .. probably back to the E6300. I would go with XP Home OEM that has Vista up-grade for now: $89.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116169
