Who are you using for a vendor - I get the impression you may be in the UK. I do have some alternate suggestions for better quality without jacking up the price. Links to each component you have chosen at the vendor's website would help so we can see what you are paying for each one.

Sure.
512mb ram doesn't really do much for you on video cards. The best 75 quid video card out there is a Nvidia 7600GT 256mb. It's a whole class above a X1650 Pro. A 1 gig dual channel kit (2x512mb) of Corsair DDR2-667 is about 60 quid before VAT. Asrock boards aren't that hot - and that's a bottom end price range. The only C2D board in that price range I trust is an Asus P5L-MX. If you are going to increase your budget anywhere, I'd recommend going all the way to a P965-based board such as the Asus P5B. You can get a Seagate 16mb cache hard drive for just a few quid more than the Maxtor. A 7200.10 series is the best drive out there, the 7200.9 is pretty good too. For the same price as a Hiper, you can get one of the new Antecs - those are somewhat better. Hiper isn't *bad* but Antec is better. If you need to cut costs after making adjustments, drop down to a E6300 processor. You won't need any additional fans or heatsinks unless the case comes with no fans at all - then get one rear case fan. The retail boxed CPU comes with a heatsink/fan. |
