New Build - Good to Go?

Hello,

Well I finally finish shopping for all the components for my 2nd build (more like first build as it has been 6 years since) and want to make sure that everything is good to go before ordering all the parts.

Any feedback is welcomed. The PC will be mainly for gaming and I plan to overclock for the first time once I get it going.

The Seagate 7200.10 series of HDs are almost as fast as Raptors and they have a long warranty. Other than the Seagate, rest looks good.

Thanks Flanz, will switch it up.

I now am facing a bit of dissappointment on the case. Just relized there is no external 3.5 bays for floppy disc and card reader. Thats kind of stupid but what you going to do, time to shop again for a case.

Viewsonic, LG, BenQ, and Samsung make good monitors as well. I'm not sure of the quality/warranty the one you chose has.

The Raptor is much, much faster than the Seagate 7200.10 (atleast according to tom's).

Haha, here we go with Tom's Hardware again. The 7200.10 is just about as fast as the Raptor, contrary to what Tom's Hardware states.

I'm just curious how Tom was so off base on all their tests; even though every other site supports their claims as well. . .

The key is the Cost per Gigabyte. Sure the Raptors are fast, but considering how expensive they are compared to the Seagates, it's not a wise investment. That being said, if you want one, go for it. I would keep it as the OS drive, but I would switch to the Seagate .10s for the storage drive.

Yes, cost per gigabyte is a major factor, as well as the fact that Seagate's Perpendicular Recording technology makes the drives just about as fast as the Raptors, and most individuals won't notice a difference.

I chose the monitor based on:

1. DPI .258
2. constrast rate 1000
3. the warranty if bad pixel
4. the size
5. the price (250 after rebate)

No a better deal? Let me know please

If the manufacturer has a warranty on dead pixels, that is nice, because Newegg will only compensate you for eight or more dead pixels.

That monitor may very well be okay, but to be honest, it looks kind of cheap in my opinion. I suggest you go for a 19" widescreen LCD, such as the Samsung 941BW.

Ok I found 2 new monitors. Both would be purchased at Costco which I know if any problems costco gives no hassle on returns even 1 year later.

This one is a bit on the expensive side but I think might be worth it, sounds really nice anyways.

Dell 24" Wide DVI 6ms 1000:1 500 cd/m² 1920x1200 WUXGA
9-in-2 Card Reader
3-year Advance Exchange
4 USB 2.0 Ports
Adjustable Stand
$675.00 including shipping

I am not sure how dell monitors are so....

ViewSonic VX2245wm Black-Silver 22" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 280 cd/m2 700:1 with a Built-in iPod Dock and Stereo Speakers and Subwoofer - Retail 380.00 picked up at local Costco.

So $300 difference, worth the extra $300? Viewsonic was recommended but again I am not sure on Dell monitors.

Opinions, advise?

Dell monitors are good. With the Dell your looking at, won't need a flash memory reader in the PC.
