Does a SATA build need SATA CDROM?

In my temporary signature is some of the specs of a new build I'm working on. I finally got around to building over the weekend, and plan to migrate soon.

however when I run windows setup, it always ends up with a blue screen of death. Sometimes it will indicate files are missing and windows setup won't continue.

I tried setting up with XP Pro, XP home, Windows 98se, and Windows 95 (all legit incase someone asks) I even have windows 95 on floppy :P (the last 3 operating sysems were just for testing incase my XP Pro cd was toast) and same results.

I have several cdrom's and several IDE cables (both 40 and 80) pin ribbons and all were used.

The one thing I don't have is a SATA Cdrom. Do I need one? when things look like their progressing it says xxx.dll or xxxx file is missing or can't be located on the cdrom several times throughout the setup. I ask for it to retry several times and finally it is found (this happens multiple times).

I have the IDE cdrom as the primary boot. Any other configurations needed for an IDE cdrom in a SATA setup?

You don't need an SATA optical drive. How is the current drive jumpered? Have you tried just one stick of memory at a time?

I didn't realize SATA optical drives meant the same thing as SATA CDroms; Thanks.

The IDE Cdrom is master. Different Ram settings tested (1 on different slots).

I cleaned the CDrom's with cloth. No BSOD anymore but they seem to stall at particular points in the blue windows setup.

You don't NEED a SATA optical, but they work better on the 965 chipsets.
