Video editing build

Not too sure whether this is the best forum to ask, but I'm sure someone will direct me anyway. I'm looking to build my own computer, but it needs to be strictly for video editing and Internet usage. I understand that video editing does not require an expensive video card, such as that used for gaming. Core 2 Duo is a must these days, I suppose, but apart from that, a decent MoBo, case, hard drives, etc, are items that I need some suggestions on.
thanks for any input. Alf.

Welcome to PCM Alf. I moved this thread over to BYOPC for you.

What is your budget? And as a follow up, does that number include a monitor/keyboard & mouse/Operating System ?

Thanks guys. Yes, forgot to mention budget This would be for the tower only. Some kind family member bought me a wireless keyboard and mouse for Christmas and I will be keeping my monitor until finances permit a new one. I also have a seperate monitor for editing. I'm thinking maybe 1200-1400 dollars US,
(600-700 British Pounds)
(1500-1800 Aussie dollars)
The MoBo must have onboard firewire
I would also like a good tutorial on building computers.

If you can fit it in your budget, a better video card to get for that work would be an ATI FireGL workstation card. They start at around $150 US. Otherwise, any ATI x1xxx card without Hypermemory will do, such as the one Flanzig recommended. If you have to cut costs, you can drop down to a E6400 or E6300 without losing much power. I wouldn't skimp on anything else - definitely do the 2gb of ram. Go for the fastest and biggest SATA hard drive with 16mb cache you can afford - the Seagate 7200.10 series is the best for the buck.

I'd even recommend getting two large HDDs, if you have the funds for it. Depending on your workflow, you'll likely be dealing with some huge file sizes while dealing with whatever compilation you're working on. I like to have my working copy (including the associated .avi files or whatever) backed up to a second drive at all times.
