Yet another Vista Build
Hello everyone, I bought a computer about seven years ago from Dell, but its seven years old now. So I have two choices, one, beckon the Dell fairy or two, build one. I have been searching around on the net for a few months for parts during my free time. I wanted to build an AMD based computer that runs Vista, here is my build:
Motherboard-Gigabyte - GA M61PM - S2 Processor-----AMD Athlon 64 x 2 5200+ /w Heatsink Power---------TR2 - W0070RVC ATX 430w HD--------------320 SATA HD RAM------------WINTEC 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Video Card----ATI 100-437402 Radeon x 700Pro Case-------------Coolermaster Centurion 5 CAC T05-UW Soundcard-----A Open Cobra AW 840 (if needed) Monitor---------Acer - AL2016W Optical----------Lite On LH20A1H-185 Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thank You |

That's not an ATX 2.0 power supply. The onboard sound is better than that sound card. Do you trust Wintec ram? If you are going to be gaming, the X700 isn't going to cut it.
Build an AMD if you want to, but you can do a Core 2 Duo cheaper that will outperform that 5200+. |

With that said, I would highly recommend an Intel build as well - it will outperform anything AMD has to offer. I'm not trying to start an argument or be biased, but the benchmarks prove it.
Here is a very basic rundown of what you should look at: Motherboard: Asus P5B Memory: Corsair ValueSelect DDR2-667 Hard Drive: Seagate 7200.10 Processor: E6300 or E6600 Case: Personal Choice, no power supply unless it is from Antec Power Supply: A good quality one, from Antec, Seasonic, Silverstone, FSP, etc. Video Card: A placeholder for DirectX 10, preferrably a 7600GS, 7600GT, 7900GS, or X1950Pro.

Thanks for the response
I heard about the AMD intel dispute but I am more interested in builing better performance over time than arguements. Ill defintely look into Intel. About the RAM, I wont be gaming with the system, I'ts chief function will be a multimedia pc. I want to create a pc that performs well, and wont have to be replaced for sometime (hopefully) but not a monster, hehe. Thanks for the rundown Here's a short Intel breakdown for starters....... Motherboard ASUS P5B LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - OEM RAM Corsair ValueSelect DDR2-667 HD Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3400620A 400GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz 2M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor or Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6400 Power Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W Power Supply Last edited by Davlamin; 01-25-2007 at 01:04 AM. |

Get the E6600 if you can afford it.

You will also need a video card. What exact multimedia purposes will you intend on doing, can you elaborate a bit, please?

Ill be encoding music and videos. I also wanted to keep it for a while without changing the computer entirely. I am actually leaning toward the intel, I have a video card already, stock from my friend which I can use for the vista build.

I presume you are getting 2x1GB sticks for RAM?
That all looks OK to me, but wait till someone else confirms the PSU because I don't really know to much about those. (Although saying that, yours looks OK to my eyes). |
