Check the CPU heatsink, may not have all 4 pins of the heatsink fully latched down.

hey i have been working on this thing forever
ok please tell me what you think i have a 500watt psu but the switch says 230v so im guessing 230volts now the thing is, i'm not sure if its my motherboard or my psu the l.e.d. lights stay powered on, the fan goes for about 5 seconds and shuts off i am sure that it is plugged in correctly also the dvd drive does not work, because i tried using it and it just wont open so what do you think psu or motherboard |

230 Volts could be your problem. 230 volts is the setting for European electricity. In the U.S. it's 115 volts. You should be able to switch that to the other setting (assuming you are in the U.S.).

The recommended path to take with a troublesome new build is an "out of case minimum hardware build" you can find instructions here.

That motherboard is showing a very high defect rate. Lots of returns - and Fry's has a nasty habit of putting returned boards back on the shelf and reselling them.
