intel Core 2 which is better? E4300 or E6300

ok so what's better the E4300 or E6300 i would like to experiment with overclocking but in the end i want a reliable stock CPU performance to rely on if i choose not to overclock. (note the E4300 is cheaper ...by $7but not really a factor lol

go with the E6300 its faster and newer has a better frontside bus

I am not familiar with the motherboard, but the E6300 is the way to go in terms of processor. The normal Conroe CPU's have a 1066FSB - up from Allendale's 800FSB. For seven dollars, it's very much a worthy upgrade.

Not having any experience personally with the C2D chips and only reading countless forums and reviews, i thought the 4300 was potentially an easier OCer and required not so fancy 667 RAM. For example 333x9 would get you to about 3GHz and only req 667 RAM vs the 6300 where a 333x7 would only get you to 2.3Ghz.

Even at stock speeds the 6300 only gets you 60MHz more and improved performance by a few percentage points. I thought the value of the 4300 is in the multiplier.

please tell me otherwise as this is my planned upgrade path later this year.

Now is not the time to buy an Allendale - the price is too high. The E4300 is going down to around $130 pretty soon. The E6300 is going to be replaced with the E6320 pretty soon too - at the same price. They are unlocking the extra 2mb cache that's already there in the Conroe.

The E4300 is only going to be attractive to 2 types of builders - those on a tight budget and those who overclock as a hobby - just to see how high they can get it, not necessarily to get the best performance.

i thought they would be introduced at 160 not near 180. does that mean a 150ish q2 pricing instead of the stated 133?

I'd call myself a budget OCer that doesnt want to use aftermarket coolers or extra volts. the 4300 has the potential to provide budget OCers like me a very simple alternative and possibly squeeze a 67% overclock to 3GHz with stock volts/HSF and 667 RAM. that's an incredible value, but i agree waiting for a couple months for the reprice does make sense if you can wait that long. but if you cant wait til then, even buying it now at the inflated 179 is still a great value since compared to the currently priced c2d chips, the added value of an easy 67% OC in the 4300 is a boon for the budget minded.

OH and i wanted to link anandtech's 4300 OC article to show the performance that can be had with a relative simple OC.

Yes - I agree. The E4300, priced way too steep. I rather the E6300 if I want to purchase it.

I'm sure (and hope) that the E4300 prices will fall to around $100~130 - that'll be a very good processor if that is just $110. The 800MHz FSB is a little bit on its lower side, but that'll be okay for most things done.

Any idea HOW soon ? Also, will the same apply to the E6400 ?

After reading all of the threads about this chip and the ASUS P5B board, I decided this would be my next build with the E6400. May be early March though before I can do it.

Yes, the E6400 will be replaced with the E6420, sometime in Q2 it looks like. Check out the price cuts.

wait according to that chart glc the new E6420 will be the same price as the E6300 is now and so i can upgrade to a better Q2 for the same configured price as i have now That great considering the actual build will be in June or around there. i like to play with configurations and do research a lot on new builds

the 4400 may also be a great OCer with that x10 multi...

as you can see from recent pricing though, the 4300s are not selling for the $163 stated retail price so expect slightly higher market prices.

Why didn't you TELL us that you won't be building till June? We shouldn't make solid recommendations till one month prior to the build. The processor is not the only thing that's gonna change.

According to that chart, I could have waited a few months and got an E6600 for almost the same as what I spent on an E6300?

So not fair.

But if I waited another 4 years I could have that computer and I bet someone would actually PAY me to take it away.

To think 6 years ago I spent over $1,000 on a Compaq with an AMD K6(2) @ 533Mhz. Back then $1,000 was a LOT of money.
