First Build your own Here (advice)
I am right in the middle of bulding my first computer, and I have some Questions to anyone???
First ASUS P5 n32-si mother board 680i chip set. Second Intel P965 Dual hard drives DDR2 memory 800 mgz bus I put all together and came up good in Bios setting, set all to what I thought should be, all looked good no lock up or crashes. Went into bois several times. Put in xp pro disk, formated hard drive and loaded, came to system will reboot, and went to bios error, first was chasis opened. (have chasis switch, and water cooled), all went down hill from here, I said ok to the error and tried to exit, but system went back to bios setting, this happened several times, finally I did the dump thing and rebooted, all went hay wire, now system locks up on boot, if I clear bois with jumper it may go into bios, but locks up just after a few key strokes, usually dont get to bios, removed MB battery and cleared Bios, still locks up have to reboot. The system was seeing all my drives and HD's I think it is because I got most of Windows loaded up and Windows is tring to boot up, out of the 15,000 reboots i have seen the windows logo twice come up, but after short time gives and error, and shuts down. I can't get the windows disk to try to reload, I also tried to reload the bios from floppy, not sure if I am doing it right? Is there anyway to clear the hard drives, to get what I have loaded on it back to blank???? Can some help me on the Bios setting?????? If i can ever get it back to set. Any suggestion before it becomes a boat anchor? May put them in my other computer and format them their? Help help me I have fallen and cant get up, nether mind ill just lay here till i get hungry, then come, this is good Thanks for any help |

Are you trying to do a RAID array, or two seperate drives?
Also, what power supply (brand too) are you using?

PC Build
Raid I did try to set up, as Mirror duel hard drives, but I am not sure I set it up correctly.
power supply 680 watts. Not sure of the brand right now (forgot will reply back) but I do have a power supply tester and it test ok. I also tried removing the hard drives and just starting up with out the HD but still locks up after a few key strokes in bios config, don't really have enough time to change any setting. I did notice that sometimes it gets thru post and give me an error message CMOS ERROR default loaded, and if I am able to go to set up It doesn't show my correct proccessor speed. I have a 3.73 Mgz processor it shows 3.19 mgz. When first started up all this was correct. But after windows tried to load is when this changed. I am now just trying to relaod the bios, but i have to get the floppy drive to boot first, which is in setting and I can not stay in their long enough to change before it locks up, On the motherboard wed site it also says to load DOS program first, but I can't seem to do this either. Hope I am giving enough info for someone to help me out Thanks |

How long can you stay in the BIOS if BOTH harddrives are disconnected? Also, try this: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409
Can you see in the BIOS the temperature of the CPU before it freezes?

It sometimes lets me bounce around in bios for the max about a minute, but most times about 20 seconds, which isn't long when I am not sure what I am looking to change and save before it locks up, I will try the link this weekend Saturday after noon and hopely all day sunday I will get to spend on it.
I will look at the Temp. then to, I did look at all that before I tried to load windows pretty good to make sure the water cooler was cooling and fans working, and all looked ok I also have an Inbay temp. Guage and it shows 83 to 92 avarage, they are right at the heat sinks on the board, this seems normal, the cooling block on the cpu stays less then warm to the touch so this seems ok. |

Aspire power supplies are junk. I would suggest replacing it. Take a look at our brand list: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 The current favorites are the Corsair and Seasonic units.

I think I got to the root of the problem.
That link on setting on table helped a whole lot thanks. Conclusion: Found that I went to one memory stick and kept swapping around nothing froze when ever memory was in slot Dim A1 or A2 would not come up, as long as I had memory IN slot B1 or B2 bios came up and worked did not crash. All memory worked (4 sticks) one at a time. Going to return for same. |
