Alpine64 and Athlon64 X2 5200
Hello,
I was wondering if the Arctic Cooling Alpine64 would be suitable for an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+? I noticed on the specs it says up to a 5000+... Would this still work for a 5200? Thanks, H3lls

I would get a HSF that specifically states compatibility from the manufacturer.
Are you building a new system? Perhaps we can lend some advice on your selections.

Just kinda browsing right now, here in the near future, ill be building an HTPC. I was looking for a heatsink that pulls the air straight down, due to limitations of the case. Alpine64 seemed to be the one of the few that are. So if you have any links to similar HSF that are compatible with the 5200+ that would be great. But no hurry, Im just putting some ideas together.

Hey, no problem.
Most heatsinks do push air through the heatsink. What is wrong with stock heatsinks? They are plenty sufficient for no overclocks and very mild overclocks. Right now, I would highly suggest you look at Core 2 Duo processors as they are currently outperforming the AMDs.

Im looking for an HD tuner and possibly a dual tuner or 2 other tuners. I like the Nvidia DualTV as far as dual tv tuners go. There is the Fusion, but its not as proven. And is the HD Tuner for OTA (off the antenna) ?
-Why the $$ motherboard? Are you planning on SLi with an HTPC build? -Swap that memory for some Corsair XMS2 -Swap those drives for Seagate 7200.10's -I would personally go for a lite-on drive -That sound card does not have Coaxial S/PDF, fyi. -Why the beefy psu? What videocard you planning on using?

I was going off on a power spree last night coming up with some of these specs. I will probably go with the dualTV tuner. That i dont know... Probably wont go SLi, now that i think about it...Will do on the memory. What motherboard would you suggest? Roger on the 7200.10's What sound card would work well for a HTPC? What watts would work well? I would like enough to handle 4 hard drives, and all the tuners and such... Thank you for your suggestions! This is why I come here!! You guys keep me on track!Looking for some other suggestions.. H3lls |

If you must go am2 then go with the normal M2N-E or something and save some cash.
I suggested the S/PDIF because you might need a soundcard with it in order to connect to a external sound system. Its all up to what you plan to do. If your not connecting it to an external speaker system, then you probally dont need one. But a great bang/buck one to have around would be the Chaintech AV-710. Before I can give a number on the powersupply I need to know which videocard you will be using. |

We'll if you have a tv or monitor that has HDMI or DVI then you would want to make use of it. If its HDMI just get any regular videocard with a dvi port and buy a DVI->HDMI adapter cable.
I suggest Nvidia's 7100,7300, or possibly 7600GS series. From ATi I would suggest the X1300. |
