Upgrade my current build?

I've had my current build for more than two years now. Starting to feel like it's not up to play some of the games i want to play. For now, i just want a cheap upgrade, and i'mma buy a whole new build in a year or two.

Current specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Asus A8V Deluxe
2X 512mb corsair value select
eVga fx5700le 256mb
Seagate SATA 7200 rpm 200gb
Thermaltake Silent Purepower 480W PSU
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
Thermaltake Tsunami
3x 120mm fans
1x 92mm fan
Thermalright XP-120

That's about all of the specs that i can think of.

EDIT: Oh yeah, i have a Samsung SyncMaster 712N Monitor

upgrade the vid card to a 7800GS it is an agp card. Up the ram to 2 1GB sticks. That should hold you for a while. The vid card update alone will do wonders for your gaming.

With more ram, load times and app switching will improve dramatically. i doubt it will make a difference in FPS though. for just gaming improvement, a new vid card will be the best investment, but for overall zippiness, the RAM will help. if you really plan on waiting a year or two to do a total rebuild, you also might want to consider upgrading to a dual core before they are no longer available. this will also help with the day to day zippiness.
