Memory

When I build a new computer in the up and coming months. I most likely will not run Vista until SP1 comes out. However, the requirements to run Vista are 1 Gig. I do enjoy gaming, but am not a hardcore gamer and photo/video editing. I was thinking about 2 Gigs of Corsair XMS2 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) ram. Would you suggest staying at 2 Gig or upgrading even further to 4 Gigs? Also, what video card would you suggest getting? My budget is about 1500 (but can go up). I still need a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Here is the rest of what I was thinking about putting in the computer

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131025
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003
Case: (least important choice): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119098 (if you know any other ones that are better and/or cheaper, please let me know)
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001
DVD drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106050
Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148144 (even thinking about getting a larger hard drive too [but staying with Seagate Barracuda 7200.10])
Sound Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102005
Monitor: (this is what I have been looking at) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001087
Keyboard and Mouse: probably something wireless from Logitech
Speakers: Keeping the old ones until I get some more money

Good parts list there, you've gone for some quality components.

I agree with your choice on the RAM - 2GB is more than sufficient at the moment. You've always got the option of increasing the amount in the future.

Buy a retail-boxed DVD burner if you need software.

You might consider giving the on-board audio a try before shelling out that much on a soundcard. Unless you're an audophile, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

Any particular reason why you chose the P5W DH motherboard (975x) over the P5B Deluxe motherboard? They are both great boards, but the P5B series is highly recommended for the Core 2 Duos: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131045 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131028

If you can go with an SATA burner such as this one, that would be great: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106046

For the memory, go with some Corsair ValueSelect if you aren't overclocking: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145098 or Corsair XMS2 if you are overclocking: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590

As for the case, there are better choices out there, but it is a personal decision really. Cooler Master, Antec, and Lian Li are good brands.

Nope, there is no reason I picked that board. Just looking around and saw it.
