Hello,
I am waiting for the parts of my first build to arrive by mail and I was reading about my HD strategy. Do I understand well when I thing that one absolutely needs a floppy drive to install a RAID 1 for 2 new HD ? Thanks in advance for your wisdom ; ) louis |

More than likely. The RAID drivers are usually on the mother board CD. Then you make a floppy of the drivers. The instructions should be on the CD and mobo manual. If you don't want to buy a floppy drive, just pull one out of an old computer, use it on the new PC, when done put it back in the old one.

Yes that's what I read in the manual. I was just wondering if I could escape using a floppy for this operation since I don't have any avalaible.
It would be nice if I could use a USB key to do the same thing. |

If installing XP, you have to use a floppy drive to install the mass storage drivers. Vista, I think supports USB or at least CD drive.

You need to have a floppy drive connected to the floppy header on the motherboard. XP will see the USB floppy as just a USB device.

If the bios supports booting from a USB floppy, it should work - Windows setup doesn't care how the floppy is connected as long as the bios enumerates it as drive A.
