Smile My first post, help with Promise 378 driver installation

Hi all. This is my first post ! I was going nuts trying to install Windows XP Professional 32 bit on my Clevo D900T laptop, which has a Promise 378 RAID controller. I kept getting this error message:

" File \WinXP\fasttx2k.sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2113 in
d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c. Press any key to continue "

Maddening. So, in the midst of my research, I stumbled upon you fine fellows and ladies. Here is my solution to this apparently common problem:

1) Download the Clevo D900T RAID drivers DIRECTLY to your floppy disk. Then, extract them to the floppy disk. Before I downloaded, I made sure to construct the RAID array properly using the Promise RAID building tool.

2) In the root of the floppy disk (drive A on my machine), I had the following files:

fasttx2k (unknown file extension)
Fasttx2k (Security catalog)
fasttx2k (Setup Information)
README
txtsetup (OEM file)
ptipbmf.dll (Application Extension)

Also in the root of the floppy were these folders:

RAID
WinXP

I'll skip the RAID folder contents since I don't think they're that important.
In WinXP, there were these files:

fasttx2k (unknown file extension)
Fasttx2k (Security catalog)
fasttx2k (Setup Information)
README
txtsetup (OEM file)
ptipbmf.dll (Application Extension

Next, I did the usual F6 routine with WinXP setup, making sure that I ejected the floppy after the setup routine read the files off the floppy (I'm superstitious).

Bingo. It worked. Only took me freakin hours to figure all this out. If Clevo and/or Promise had just taken the time to explain a bit better....oh well, life of a geek I suppose.

Hope this helps a fellow geek/geekette.
