2nd Hard drive not showing and drivers question

Hello,

I just got my new build going but when I go to my computer it does not show the 2nd drive for some reason.

The bios has it though and it actually gave me a choice in the beginning on where to download the OS.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Also have a drivers question. I installed the latest video card driver. Do I need to download drivers for anything else? I tried the motherboard (Asus P5B-E) but running into problems so I figured I am fine since I am running.

Thanks

right click "my computer" and choose "manage".
choose "disk management".
you should see the new hd there.
right click it and choose "format".

It does not give me that option to format. I do see the disk though. When I right click I only have a couple of options:

- Convert to Dynamic Disk
- Properties

While I was waiting for an answer I took the hard drives out and changed the 2nd drive jiumper to slave and put on Sata 3 socket (I have 1,2,3,4,5,6 with 3 and 6 being slaves, asus P5B-E mobo) so i hope i did not just screw things up. Before that I had same set up (sata 1 and 3) but left both jumpers on master.

i'm too tired to follow your new hd arrangements. maybe tomorrow.

anyway, were you right-clicking on the white space to the right of the column that names the hd?

what i mean is that there is a white rectangle with the partition info (it might not have any info if it's unpartitioned/unformatted).
right click in that area.

What are your system specs? Sata drives don't require jumpers to work as you only need to plug the drives into sata1, sata2 etc.

Sorry no specs listed and if I right click in other areas like the white as you said I will have to option for " new partition"

Tempus: I read that somewhere but I tried to do slave. master anyway thinking that might of been the problem. That is what it is on now, should I change it back? Bios still recognized both drives.

specs are:

Asus P5B-E
Corsair XMS 1gx2 6400
Seagate Sata 7200.10 250g x 2
eVGA 7950
E6400 Intel
OCZ 600w

The new drive needs to be Initialized before it can be formatted. Disk Management will show the total capactiy in black. Click the block in front of the black area and you should get the Initialize option. Then do the format.

The Parameter is incorrect

You better check the jumper if it's a SATA drive - moving it around from factory position may cause problems. The jumper chart should be on the drive label, if not, it will be on the drive manufacturer's support site. The only time you change a SATA jumper is to switch it between 1.5 or 3.0, you want 3.0. Not all SATA drives have that jumper.

You need to install all drivers from the motherboard CD.

Ahh ok, I guess I will change the jumper back to where it was.

Drive is working now it seems. just need to take it out again and change the jumper, a pain but must be done I guess.

Does it matter if it is plug the cable in the slave or master slot on the mobo?

Thanks everyone for all the help

No, it doesn't matter which socket you use.

Before touching the jumper READ THE CHART.
