New Build Suggestions
I知 dreaming about a new build. It痴 been around 4 years since I shopped for parts, so I知 out of step. Have looked at reviews till I知 cross eyed. Could some of ya値l have a look and make suggestions? Not a gamer.
Do I need better cpu and case cooling, more cables, etc? Case.Antec P180b http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=140138 PSU. Antec 550 he http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=140140 CPU. Athlon 64x2 4200 am2 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...ctCode=80725-9 Ram. Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2GB Kit DDR2-800 XMS2-6400 Xtreme Performance http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...ctCode=85025-6 HDD. WD1600YS http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...Code=101208-13 MoBo. Asus M2N4-SLI nForce4 SLI Sempron/Athlon 64(FX)(X2) SktAM2 DDR2 ATX MoBo http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=247093 PSU tester. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=371324 Video card. I知 lost! Am I reading the specs right on these video cards? Looks like most of cards in the $100 to $150 range use system memory. One in below bunch, states onboard memory. I based that line of thought on trying to read spec on card that had 256 mb of ram and you need 256 mb min system memory. What do I know? bb Any suggestions on these cards? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814140074 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102041 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=326835 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=321350 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=321352 Thanks bb 34 |

Welcome to PC Mech!
My first suggestion to you would be to seriously consider an Intel build. Their new Core 2 Duo processors outperform anything AMD has to offer at the moment, like-for-like. We can suggest some alterations if you give us a budget for this system. FK

The case and power supply you picked out are fine, but since you won't be getting a high-end video card, a quality lower-powered unit will be fine. I'm recommending an Antec here to ensure compatibility with that big case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103942 From there, my suggestions are, ASUS P5B motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131030 Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115005 Corsair XMS DDR2-800 (cheaper than Value memory after rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 Seagate 250GB 7200.10 SATA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148142 Since you're not a gamer, you can get away with a low-end video card that doesn't use system memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130270 We're recommending SATA Optical drives to go with the Intel p965 motherboards. Unfortunately, the Retail boxed Lite-on version is out of stock at Newegg. You might have to go ZipZoomFly for this. FK |

You said that this will not be a gamer. What is this system to be used for: surfing/general office,video/audio editing, hi-end 3D/CAD type work?
Basic Intel system: CPU: Core 2 Duo E6300 MOBO: Asus P5B Ram: Corsair Value Select DDR2 667 in a 1gig kit HD: Seagate 7200.10 250gig Video Card: ATI X1300 DVD: Lite-On Retail From here we can tweek things to meet your needs.

If parts of this are inappropriate, please delete.
This will be a general use machine. I haven't tried playing games. Afraid I might get hooked. I try to learn a little something each time I use it, but often get side tracked. Maybe some video editing, photo manipulation, as in "shopped." I have 2-k pro on this box. Was told that might have problems if I image to new one? I have XP-pro that I can install on new build. After a few years of an alcohol induced fog. Just trying to keep my so called mind busy. bb 34 |
