General Questions on my first comp

Hi i really want to make my own gaming computer as the one i have now doesnt have to speed or the graphics to run the games. But i have come into a few questions that need answering:
1)AMD or Intel? Not sure which one really. Out of the two which does the better CPU's for gaming?
2)What does the RAM mean? like im guessing the higher it is the better but what advantges does it give?
3)Does it really matter which motherboard i get? Will all cards etc. go into it?
4)Radeon or Nvidia? Which one of these offers the better graphics for around $200-$250?

thats it really thanx

1. The Intel Core 2 Duos are better processors for gaming and any use at the moment. They are beating anything AMD has to offer for now.
2. RAM = Random Access Memory. You'll need memory stick(s) to put in your motherboard in order for it to run. You will want at least DDR2-667 memory. I recommend Corsair, and yes, the higher, the better.
4. It is almost a matter of personal preference. With that kind of budget, you could get an NVIDIA 7950GT or an ATI X1950XT, but I don't recommend doing that. I'd go for a placeholder card such as an NVIDIA 7600GT until you can afford DX10.

That is a standard ATX case, so any ATX motherboard and power supply will work. For the motherboard, we need to know if you prefer AMD or Intel. As NB said, Intel Core 2 Duo is the way to go.

For the PSU, wattage is dictated mostly by your video card. Here is our list of brands: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195

I merged your threads together since it is all about one build.

Look for a PSU in the 450w to 500w range. This will give some headroom above the minimum required of 400w.

That's a good one. For a bit more: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CA-005-CS - that is supposed to be able to run any single card setup on the market.
