Finished first PC - possible have an optical drive error.

Hi,

I have just finished my first build, and everything seems to be running fine at boot-up, with one exception: my optical drive (DVD Rewriter). It is recognised by my mobo, but when i put my Windows disc in to install, the drive makes a horrible grinding sound, and also sounds like it is spinning way too fast. Is this drive simply DOA? Im currently using a spare CD drive to install Windows, so i know that the connections are fine, because this drive works with no problems.

Thanks in advance.

It certainly does sound like a DOA, get an RMA number so you can return it and in the mean time keep your Windows disk well away from it, the last thing you need is that scratched.
