Question Building a gaming machine for games of 2007

Hi guys. I'm looking at building a pc for all the 2007 games (and later) I'm not too sure how long i should wait before i do it. I want to spend around $2000 AUD (bout $1700 US)
With Vista just being released, and only 1 real directx 10 card on the market, i was wondering how long i should wait before the prices come down, and newer cards are out ect.

Thanks guys

We generally suggest build the best PC your budget allows and get a place holder video card until more DX10 cards are out. And buy XP with an up-grade coupon until at least Vista SP1 is out.

ATi's answer to DX10, R600, will be paper launched in April and start appearing in retail during May.. If you can wait that long, you will get something probably more powerful then current 8800GTX's.

Otherwise, these are it for flagship cards for this generation. If you want high-end, that is.

Depends on how long you plan to wait..

We'll if you want to go all out then, you could get ATi's new card coupled with a decent Core 2 Duo system for 2000AUD.

Ok, if i was gonna build in april, would it be ok to buy vista?? Or just do what the other guy said and buy XP with the upgrade coupon?

Depends how long it takes SP1 for Vista to arrive. I would guess it will be later then April, so stick with the XP with Upgrade for now.

Yes, Alaron's suggestion would be a good move.

BUT, if any DX10 games are released by the time you build, that you just must play, then yes at that time go ahead and buy Vista.

SP1 is still atleast a year or more away.
