New Build Startup,And CPU Speed Problems
I just got done rebuilding a system, and have a few questions. When I first turned it on,it just stuck on the BIOS splash screen. After I did get it to boot by removing a few items, clearing the CMOS,and turning it off a few times,it showed on the BIOS splash screen the CPU speed was a 2.10 GHZ.,which only seems to show on startup with the power button, and not reboot, only the Bios version shows then, and under Windows ME system information it shows 2.8GHZ. 2105 MHZ.I also had it say 1.40 GHZ. on the Bios Splash screen. The CPU is a P4 2.8 533FSB 512K,and the motherboard is a Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra.I noticed that the Bios in the machine right now is P4SX2BA3,and the oldest one on their website is P4SX2BA4,which shows it supports 533 FSB.Could this be why it show a difference in speed, and I'm having problems?Should you have to remove PCI cards on startup,or can you build the whole system and start it up with everything in it?I was also able to boot into Windows with it only wanting to update a few drivers, but it didn't ask for all of them. When I went into the control panel under the system icon, there were no question marks. That was until I rebooted again. Then it wanted the rest of the drivers. After I installed them,it wouldn't boot to windows right,so I formatted it.I always thought you had to format when replacing hardware like a motherboard? Is it a good idea to start from scratch?Any help is greatly appreciated.Sorry for the long post!Thank You very much!

It's a real good idea to get something better than WinME. Update the bios to the NEWEST.

Agreed about WinME... I had to endure that for 5 years. The computer never ever booted perfectly 1st time amongst a catalogue of constant errors. It could well be THE, if not, A problem.

Thank You all for the advice.I updated the Bios to the newest version that they had,and it fixed the speed, even though it doesn't show it everytime it boots, and the date of the Bios doesn't match the one on the site.Maybe that was when they added it?Also,I noticed something really strange even before I updated the Bios. When I shut the machine down, but still left the switch on the power supply on,the light(s) on the keyboard stayed lit,as well as one of the ethernet lights on the motherboard. They would go off if I shut the switch off. There is no ethernet cable plugged in either. The ethernet light would stay lit while the machine was on too.Does this sound right?Any help is greatly appreciated.Thank You very much!

That's normal. There is power on the motherboard even when the system is off.
