Is This Okay?
I was thinking of a build for my little brother, and i was wondering if these components work well together:
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Allendale 1.8GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E4300 - Retail Item #: N82E16819115013 ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail Item #: N82E16813131025 CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X1024-6400C4 - Retail Item #: N82E16820145040 EVGA 256-P2-N443-LX GeForce 7300GT 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail Item #: N82E16814130052 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3250620AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM Item #: N82E16822148144 My brother loves to play games (so do I >.>), especially Final Fantasy XI and he's always on my PC playin' it, so I figure I'd build him a computer for himself. I was just wonderin' if these things were compatible or if there are any better adjustments i could make. Thanks! |

If this is a gaming pc..I would spend less on the motherboard and ram, and more on the videocard.
-Is the ~$10 difference between the E4300 and E6300 really worth it for you? I would make the jump to the E6300. -Downgrade that to a P5B motherboard. You cant use two nvidia cards in the P5WDH anyway. -Downgrade the ram to some Corsair Valueselect DDR2 667 -Now spend the extra $ on your video card. I suggest the 7600GT as absolute minimum. -You also need a powersupply and optical drives.

this one would fit Mr. Ferrrari's recommendation, and is widely recommended on these forums for C2D builds.

The BFG 7600GT is 92.00 @Newegg right now. Well liked too. Antec is apparently giving great deals to retailers w/the EW 500w psu's because I've been seeing those go for 50 to 60 dollars. Both of those deals are a total steal right now.

What Mr. F was saying is to go with the P5B that LeftyAce has linked you to.
The P5W DH has two PCI-E slots, but does not support Nvidia's SLI. So if you are going with an Nvidia card, you won't be able to use SLI in the future with that board. Thus there is no reason to spend the extra money, so the P5B is a better choice. With the money you save, upgrade to the 7600 video card. Your games will thank you. Go with a LiteOn DVD Burner with software. For the power supply, you won't need too much. The Antec Sonata II is a great case with a great 450w PSU.

Not so new

Looks good, but we actually recommend retail DVD burners because they come with software. See if you can switch to one of those. Everything else looks solid.

I dont really trust the Smartpower's anymore.
Your system really doesn't need more then 450w. A fsp 450w or sunbeam nuuo 450w would be some better alternatives. |

What case are you using? That's a beige combo drive - get a DVD burner for what - 10 bucks more? You need a *retail* burner to get software. An XClio 450BL power supply will be fine for a 7600GT.
