Thumbs up Wife's new build

I just finished building a new computer for my wife with following components.

Same old Aluminum case, she loves it.
AMD Opteron 175 Denmark 2.2GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache "stock fan"
FSP400-60THN-R ATX 400W Power Supply
ASUS A8N5X motherboard
Kingston HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB) Memory
ASUS EN7900GS Video Card
Seagate ST3250620AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Hard Drive
NEC Silver DVD Burner
2 X 120mm 3 X 80mm Case fans

She plays EQ2 with this computer, she is running it in full mode, going into instances with 24 people fighting boss mobs and still has zero video lag. All while playing Rhapsody in the back ground.
This processor can be easily OC'd to 2.8 or higher without changing the stock fan. Why would one want to spend anymore.
I don't think I am getting any more performance out of my Santa Ana nor do I think a Core2Duo would have out performed this set up for my wive's needs.

I agree, a lot of people really over due it when building machines. I just build for my needs, and I have found, I usually get a way with much less, then most people think you need.

C2D are great but for the money I spent I dont think you can beat Opterons.

You are a bit behind if thats your assumption.

They demolish AM2 and 939 in every basic form of speed...Super pi, 3D, Encoding.

Just look at the Futuremark ORB database. C2Ds have top ranks.

Mr. F - don't even waste your breath. Khalil wouldn't use an Intel product if it were the last thing left on Earth. He is very closed minded on that too, he is a classic fanboy.

Nope you are wrong about the fanboy, I do not use Intel for reasons I cannot mention on this forum so there is no need to insult me, I do appreciate all your great advice and help glc.
I stated above that I think the Intel Processors (C2D) are great, just because I refuse to use Intel does not make me a bad person.

I never said it made you a bad person. I just know your opinion on Intel - and I somewhat feel the same way about AMD. I'm quite pleased these days with the way Intel has rebounded - Netburst was getting VERY old.

glc You are right, Intel have improved drasticaly. I think the core2duo is an awesome processor, unfortunately that does not change how I feel about Intel and their policies.
I am looking forward to AMD smoking Intel real soon with a new line of processors.

From Wikipedia encyclopedia: Fanboy or fanboi is a term used to describe an individual (usually male, though the feminine version fangirl may be used for females) who is utterly devoted to a single fannish subject, or to a single point of view within that subject, often to the point where it is considered an obsession. Fanboys remain loyal to their particular obsession, disregarding any factors that differ from their point of view. They are also typically hateful to the opposing brand or competition of their obsession regardless of its merits or achievements.

Fanboy is not really an insult, it is just a term used to describe people who fit the definition, which your stance clearly does. I personally hope that AMD does rise to the challenge and swats Intel off the pedestal also. Not because I don’t like Intel, but because competition is good for the consumer.

I wished one or 2 more companies would rise to the challange and produce competetive processors. I find it strange that only 2 Processor makers dominate the entire world of computers.
I also find it strange that the VGA world is also dominated by 2 companies, ATI and Nvidia.

Rumors are Intel has also seriously started stepping foot into the VGA world..LOL.

AMD and Intel are dominant partly due to their safeguarding of x86 process. Sony, IBM, and others are also growing day by day. Heck AMD was at a time just like them.

There are alot of innovative designs out there, just not the brand name and $$ to back them up.

There are other processor manufacturers - Via bought out Cyrix and they have a line of ultra low power processors that work quite well for what they are. They are not high performance by any stretch of the imagination. Same in the VGA world - SiS and S3 are still around as far as I know.
