My New Pc Won't Start!!!

Motherboard - ASUS P5W DH Deluxe SKT 775 dual-core Core2Duo
Processor - Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13ghz 2mb Cache
Graphics Card - PNY Nvidia GeForce 7300GS 256MB
RAM - Corsair (TWIN2X1024A-6400) XMS2-6400 1024MB
Power Supply - Coolermaster eXtreme Power 380W PSU
Monitor - Samsung Syncmaster SM940BW 19" 4ms 500:1
Case - NZXT LEXA Aluminium Case With LCD
Hard disk - Seagate Sata 200GB + Seagate ATA/100 200GB
Along with some NEC DVD writer.

The problem I am having is that the PC will not start up at all. The green light on the motherboard comes up but nothing happens. When I take out the 4-pin power plug out the fans spin but I’m not sure if anything else happens.
I think I don’t have enough power and maybe 380W is not enough.
Do you think this is the case?
Thank You
T

Did you try testing it out of the case?

That PSU isn't an ATX 2.0 unit. It has only 16A on the + 12v line. It would be fine on an older system but not with a fairly powerfull unit like yours.

could be a short causing it not to start, it happend to me before, when I pulled it out of case it worked fine then i looked and found the short. Make sure the board is not sitting on anything metal or u may fry something. I would lay it on the original box it came in when I went to test it. That power supply is not a good one for this kind of rig but it might boot.

Could you please suggest some power supplies, I will try to return this one then hopefully.
I don't want to spend over £40 if possible.
Thank You

Isn't my one ATX 2.01
Coolermaster eXtreme Power 380W PSU - ATX12V V2.01 20+4pin 1x PCI-E 2x SATA.
Do you think I should go for 500W just to be on the safe side.

As long as its a quality brand anything 400+ will work for you. And not that PSU is not ATX2.0 I think flanzig1 stated that earlier.

Do you think I could get a "20 Pin to 24 Pin Power Supply to Motherboard Adaptor" to work instead rather than going through the hassle of returning my PSU and getting a new one. 380W should be OK shouldn't it.

NO. You plain old do NOT have enough +12v amperage for a PCI-E board.

OK I have managed to get a 600W power supply for now which seems to be working, however when using Everest to check my temps I get about 70C for both my cores and about 40C for motherboard. I never applied any thermal paste, could this be my problem?
Would it be safe to use my PC at this temp for another day or two until I get some?
Thank You

If you used the stock heatsink that comes with the CPU then your OK. Would double check to make sure that all 4 corners of the hetasink are fully latched in. One corner not fully latched can cause the heatsink not fully contact the CPU face. This can cause the CPU to run hot or overheat.

I will probably buy some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste as the temp just doesn't seem to go down.
The stock heatsink is pretty well attached I think (I've never done it beofre though) it doesn't move much.
To check that all 4 corners are latched in properly would I have to take out the motherboard and check underneath it to make sure?
Thank You

That would be to the best way to check. Then you can see if the black pins all extend beyond the white plastic the same amount.

I tried reinstalling the stock heat sink after taking out the motherbaord and making sure that it was all properly in but my cores still run at 60C. There is no thermal paste on it at all at the moment but I wil add some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste tomorrow.
My Motherbaord is 30C, GPU 55C and Hard disk 30C, is this all normal?
I am thinking about buying an
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 think my heatsink is not right,
and a HIPER HPU-4B580-MS ATX12V v2.2 580W Power Supply, my 600W Win Power is too noisy. Are they both compatible?
Thank You

You cannot run without thermal interface material. The stock heatsink is fine for stock speeds if installed correctly.

I showed you what you need for a PSU. If you want better, stick with Fortrons and just go higher. Hipers and Winpowers are not that good.
