first build-Computer shuts after running awhile

hello

i am new here and have just built my own computer with the following components

APEVIA X-Plorer ATXB8KLW-BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor 2.4GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADA4600CUBOX - Retail

OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2P800R22GK - Retail

ECS NFORCE4M-A (V3.0) Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce4 4X ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

BFG Tech BFGR7950512GTOCE GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 OC Video Card - Retail

Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Antec True Power Trio TP3-550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply with Three 12V Rails - Retail

SONY 16X DVD±R DVD Burner With 5X DVD-RAM Write Black IDE Model DRU120C - Retail

and it shuts down after it has been running for a while quicker if i try to install world of warcraft

i think it is a heat issue as when i was installing the cpu and heatsink some of the stock compound came off when i placed the heatsink down for a minute and then i had to fiddle with it so it would lock down tight in the mobo

i have 3 fans at the moment 1 80mm(came with the case) on the side window taking air out of the case and 1 120mm (compusa brand) on the back of the computer also taking air out

and i have another 80mm fan that came with the case at the top putting new air into the case

any suggestions as to what could be causing the problem i have been running speedfan and it says that i am running between 40c and 50c although i am not sure what component the temp1 reading actually is referring to

anyhelp or ideas on why this is happening and how it can be helped would be greatly appreciated

The top fan should be an exhaust(hot air rises), the side fan can be in or out but generally it's set up to blow in(cool air for the video card).
After letting it run for a bit, reboot and get into the BIOS to read the CPU and mobo temps.

That CPU temperature is a bit warmer than I'd like but it shouldn't shut down on you - unless it skyrockets when you put it under load.

that is what i think happens but it is real hard to tell as it freezes up before it reboots

i just downloaded a temp monitor and running a light load it says 34C

i also installed and ran oblivion and it freezes up after just a bit of playing i let the cinamatics run and it froze before i got to choose my character

EDIT: just rebooted from a oblivion freeze and my mobo is at 53C is this a major probelm?

Mobo or CPU?

Open the case and aim a desk fan inside it and see if the issues go away. This will prove or rule out a heat issue.

Those temps look backwards.

i am using sensors view is there any program you would recomend using instead?

the sys reading has a picture that looks like a mobo to me

with the fan running into the case at high speed my temps are

cpu 26C
sys 56C

and my case lcd says i have a 71.6F temp

ok i noticed my cpu fan wasn't working and isn't going very fast so i rebooted and went into the bios temp readings and they say that my cpu is a 56C and my system is at ~27C

is this something wrong with the cpu or heatsink that i should rma back to newegg or what? it was only going about 700rpm

or could this be something wrong with the mobo itself i think it is safe to say it isn't the bfg 7950GT that is causing the problems becuase i run the directx diagnostics tests and they don't have any problem

Go into the BIOS and under something like PC Health see if there are any options for controlling the CPU fan.
Also, check that the heatsink is on tight and that the CPU fan is plugged into the correct header.

For now, disable it. Disabling it will force the fans to run at full.

the edit button went away so sorry about double posting but i believe i solved at least the stability problem because i took out 1 stick or ram and it installed world of warcraft easily then i tested the other stick by trying to run oblivion and it restarted so i am keeping this one stick of ram in for now

although what do i do with the faulty stick it came as one set do i rma it all after getting some from a store like microcenter or compusa ?

also this alerted me to another problem in thread http://pcmech.com/forum/showthread.p...wpost&t=175823

If you removed one stick, and the comp ran fine, then you installed the other and had the same problem, then ya it sounds like one stick is bad for sure..
