PC makes a beep

I just got done building my first PC and Im having an issue with it. When I hit the power button, the PC beeps, everything starts to turn on then it shuts itself off. Why does it do this? I checked all my connections and the're correct. I went over everything and it seems to be in the right place.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Case: NZXT Nemesis
MOBO: Asus PB5
VGA: EVGA Nvidia 7600 GS (Im only going to be using this card until the Dx10 comes out)
PSU: Subeam NUUO 550
Ram: Corsair VS Dual Channel 2 gig
HDD: Seagate barracuda 320

Try this: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409
You MUST remove the motherboard from the case; it's possible something is shorting out the motherboard.

Is the heatsink properly installed? All 4 of those posts have to SNAP fully into the motherboard holes, then be locked with a 1/4 turn.

Okay, just for safety sake. I tried EXACTLY what the sticky said for the second time. I still get the same results. Anyone give me more ideas?

One of your core components is defective or installed incorrectly. Remove the video card and ram and try it - it should give you multiple beeps but keep running.

Still the same thing withought ram or video card.

I looked in my book and found the AMI Bios beep codes. Here is what it says...

"Check the jumper settings and make sure all connections are secure or call retail for assistance"

"1 beep: Keyboard controller error, Refresh time error, No Master drive detected"

I plunged in the driver and I got nothing. I did the same with the keyboard also. I also looked into the manual for jumper settings and I set the them for the USB and the Keyboard. The only thing I didn't do is use the jumper for resetting the bios clock.

If it won't stay running with only the CPU installed, you have a bad motherboard, power supply, or CPU - or you don't have the CPU installed correctly or the power supply connected correctly.

I figured out the problem (finnaly). Apprently duel core CPU's require the 4 pin connector from the power supply to give it more juice. Once I plugged that in it started up. I configured the bios and installed windows vista. Everything works great now. The only thing is I cant get my computer to detect anything on my PCI slots (Not the 1x or 16x). Im trying to get this connected to the internet through my wiresless PCI card. Any reason why it wont detect it? If its through the BIOS do you know to do it? Because I looked.

That 4 plug connector is not just for core 2 duo's. All P4's require the extra power connector. That step is emphasized in the out of box build sticky. As far as the pci slots are concerned you need to load all the motherboard drivers. I believe once the chipset drivers are loaded, the pci slots, the usb and other motherboard components will fall right in line. Don't take shortcuts. Reboot after the first drivers are loaded and each time the install routine asks if you want to reboot.

Are your PCI cards Vista-compatible with drivers available?

Im entirely sure what you mean but...

I guess they are. I mean the P5B mobo box said vista capaible. I guess they just don't have a chipset driver. So I guess im screwed for a while.

I hate to suggest this being it's new build and all but there is one alternative to waiting with no pci slots working. If there is in fact no Vista drivers available you could install win xp and then upgrade to Vista. I know it sound tedious and somewhat defeating with a new build and clean install but it could solve your problem. Besides what goo dwill the pc be if nothing works? The xp drivers may just be accepted by Vista at upgrade. Just a thought.
