Boom OS won't boot after upgrade

Here's deal-yo...I completely gutten my desktop from a P4 (478socket) to a Core 2 Duo (1.86GHz), 2GB DDR2 Ram (2x1024MB), 640MB Nvidia GTS8800, Abit I975MAX mobo, 550w PS and after exiting the CMOS setp up, the computer hangs at the WinXP boot screen, halts, flashes the blue screen of death and then restarts. After the restart it stops at the selection screen for "Safe Mode, Safe Mode w/Networking, Safe Mode w/Command Prompt, Last Known...blah blah and Start Windows Normally" selections. NO matter what I select it just keeps doing the same thing over and over. Is there a hardware conflict? Or software?

What do you mean by "gutten"?
If what you mean is that you have changed all of those components, then you will need to do at least a repair/install or maybe even a full format and reinstall of XP.

Can you format the harddrive or will you lose too much personal stuff?
Have you got all the IDE/SATA cables connected correctly?
Are all the drives including the optical drives seen in the BIOS?

I have all my important stuff backed up on a external HD (not connected). The BIOS sees everything. And all the cables are connected for the HD.

If you are OK with formatting the harddrive and reinstalling XP (which would be the best thing to do considering the amount of hardware you have changed), put your XP CD in the optical drive drawer and restart your machine, when it boots tap the appropriate key to get into the BIOS and change the boot order in the BIOS to boot from CD first, if it fails to start setup again and goes to the saftey screen, boot it up again but this time in the BIOS set all the boot devices to CD.
What type of XP CD do you have? OEM, retail or manufacturers recovery CD?

Talking

BINGO!! Now why didn't I think of that??? Guess it takes an outside view looking in to figure it out. Thank you! It seems to be working now...OF course I have to reformat, which I'm fine with.

If I have any other issues I'll post them.

Again, Thank you!

Your welcome Gunny and welcome to PCMech.
Does "Gunny" indicate that you are a member of the armed forces?

Gunny, I wanted to be a Marine but they wouldn't take me - my head wouldn't fit in a jar!

(US Navy, retired)

Good luck, if you are a Staff, Gunny shouldn't be much longer for you.
