Help for new build

This is my first time building a PC and after sifting through various materials I think it is time that I get some serious advice from people who know what they are doing. I am trying to build a starter gaming rig for right around $800 I want to go with an AMD Platform.
These are the parts that I have looked at so far.

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard

I could use some input on RAM and video card. I should note that I just want enough on this rig to get it up and going for right now. I plan to add more to this system pretty soon. $800 is just to get me up and gaming. I already have speakers, monitor, keyboard and mouse. Would also like some advice about an OS. Should I go ahead and get Vista or wait? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!

Don't get that Apevia power supply, that brand isn't known for producing good quality reliable power supplies. Look at this thread for more information on power supplies.

Since you're going with the AM2 platform be sure you read up on RAM compatibility for the motherboard you're getting. The AM2 platform is real fussy about the RAM you use.

Personally, I'm staying away from Vista until at least the first Service Pack. I feel WinXP is still a very good OS to use for what I do.
