Do i need to format a new hard drive

Hi I am new to this and decided to have ago at building a new PC. The one thing that I am confused about is that when I put a brand new hard drive in do I need to format it or will Windows Vista do it all for me when I put the boot disk.
Sorry to be a bit thick. If you need me to post my specs i will do.

If you are going make the new disk your main (boot) drive use the disk makers utility disk to clone the old drive to the new and it will formatted in the process. If the disk is going to be a secondary or storage drive just instal it and boto up. Then rt lcik on my computer and click on manage. Then on disk management in the lower window. There you can partition and format the drive.

Vista setup will partition and format it for you if that's the drive you are installing it on.
