Intel uCode error and more!

Hi guys, im glad i signed up, you all seem really helpful.

Now to my problem: I'm building a computer for my first time and the parts are..

So, I build it, albeit slowly, and when it's complete it runs, turns on, BIOS does its thing, its great..

Until the error hits. Intel uCode error. Press F1 to continue. And when I did it does nothing but sit there. So I fooled around with BIOS and disabled the floppy drive and the error still persists but it actually continues this time. I've checked around and I hear this error message is a result of BIOS being out of date.

Anyways, the computer then goes into windows setup after the Intel uCode error. I'm installing Windows XP. It's going and it's going and things are looking rosy. But just when it tries to run Windows, this bomb drops:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Of course, I restart and of course, I get the same message. This leaves me puzzled. Is there something wrong with my HD? Has this something to do with Intel uCode? I guess that it could be the former and I go out and get another HD, a 7200 RPM EIDE hard drive 160 GB and when I run it through I get the same blue screen.

I am stuck at this point. My technical know-how is limited, a lot of this was trial and error. Any help would be much appreciated, I can't wait to get this new machine up and running.

Depending on the version of the motherboard it may not support the Core 2 Duo CPU. Check at the Asus web site to see if a BIOS update will make your board compatable with a C2D CPU. To do a BIOS update may need to buy a cheap Celeron CPU to get it to run.

The only P5LD2's that support Core 2 Duo are the version 2.0's (PCB 2.01G) with bios 1207 or 1702, depending on exact processor stepping.
