My internet conn is about to go down, but real briefly: scrap the AMD, MOBO and aux cooler, get a core2Duo e6600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003 , Asus P5B Mobo, and if not overclocking, Corsair Value Select DDR2 667. If Ocing, Corsair XMS2 800.

And SLI is probably a waste of money. Save it somewhere and get a 9800 when they come out.

Unless you or your friend are absolutely set on AMD, I would go with a Core 2 Duo setup. An E6600 would be about $50 more, or even a E6400 would still be a good choice for less than that AMD. Just like Lefty said, an Asus P5B Deluxe would be a great choice for a MOBO.

One 8800GTX would be just as good a choice and would support more games and use less power.

Thats a decent hard drive, a Seagate 7200.10 would also be a good choice.

Thats just nitpicking though, everything else looks good to me.

P.S.--Does the budget include an OS?

got an OS Windows XP Pro, had a spare. ummm he really wants an AMD and since he doesn't want to OC i just said fine, and he wants SLI lol even though i told him one gpu is fine... lmao he gets to have a game comp every 3-4 yrs so yeah...

his current one is XP 2800, 9800pro (agp) 1gb kingston ram, Abit NF7, 150gb hdd...

i looked into intel, since i need to get SLI nothing really was in the price range, as most with 32x sli was above 250...

i changed the ram... it's not that big of a difference i suppose...

I would swap that cpu cooler out for a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro or something, it'll be lighter, easier to install, and more then enough for a non overclocked computer. Or a Zalman.

1. Not sure im familiar with that board. But I would personally look into Asus M2N32-SLi. But if your familiar with the abit, go for it.

2. On the videocards: My personal advice? Buy ONE 8800GTX, and have the option open to add another later when its needed or when they become cheaper. To even make use of a single 8800GTX, you better be running a nice 24'' monitor *atleast*.

3. No on the powersupply. For two 8800GTX's you need atleast 750w of high quality, preferably more. These are the powersupplies I suggest for all future SLI:
-Etasis ET-850 *Preferred*
-Etasis ET-750

4. Go for a seagate 7200.10 hard drive

AND keep the Corsair DDR2 800 ram.

I did look into the ASUS mobo, that was my original option but i decided that i was gonna go with ABIT since that was his original mobo and i liked the Abit's i've dealt with.

i'll think about the single card one... and i'll ask my friend whether he can wait to buy another one or not... he's plugging his comp into a 36 inch panasonic plasma tv... (lol and has a 21 inch LCD)

i personally don't like seagate as i had 4 of them break on me over the years. no problem with WD and i have had this hard drive with me for like 4 yrs and no problems, brought to and from japan... so it's travled enough miles, i had a seagate with me too... that died...

i'm getting the EPP latency 4 corsair xms2 ddr2 800

Hard Drive: That's fine, WD drives are great, too. I'm a big fan of them myself. Keep in mind though that Seagate 7200.10 drives are supposedly very fast and carry a 5 year warranty.

Memory: Go for the CAS5 latency timings - they are basically the same thing and you probably won't notice a difference. I've heard of some instability issues with the P965 chipset and perhaps those are reoccurring with the SLI chipsets.

Actually the lower the latency the better with AM2...EPP/SLI memory has even more compatibility with n590.

Nothin wrong with CAS5 tho.

cpu cooler is arctic cooling freezer 64 (amd ver of the 7)

current psu that i'lm looking at

Etasis 750w
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817608006

OCZ gamextreme 700w
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341002

thermaltake 750w
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153038

silverstone 750w
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256006

i'm really close to 1800 and i'm trying to keep it below that...

Use the certified list at slizone.com for choosing a power supply. There aren't too many that pass with dual 8800GTX's.
