Do you have another optical drive available to you. Sometimes optical drives can be faulty and some windows files don't get loaded thus you get this problem.
Windows XP has issues with more than 3.2 GB of memory. Before doing anything, remove 2 Gigs and reboot, see what happens. If that dont work try the other 2 gigs then reboot. If that don't work then try re-installing windows with a different optical drive. Make sure all your IDE or SATA cables are correctly installed.

Try loading Windows with the minimal necessary components connected to the motherboard. And I'd pull all but one stick of RAM too.

Is the heatsink securely attached? Let it sit for a few hours, fire it up and go into the bios, find the section that monitors temperatures, and let it sit there. What are the temperatures reading? Let it run till the temperatures stabilize or it shuts down.

Feed ,me peanuts and call me Dumbo, GLC, the Temps were to high, it did not shut off in bios even after a couple of hours (before). But as soon as I read your reply, I started tring to figure out the C= to F, I thought is was high, but was not sure for the celuis reading, I had the Water block good and thumb tight, was scared to tighten to tight when first installed. But I tightened down above thumb tight while watching the temps, and it droped 10c. I kept tighting little by little with screw driver and now settled at 37C. (CPU). What I have read this is now about normal. (Why they use the Celuis??) Then loaded windows and all loaded ok. HU/?? I never would of figured. Thanks for the advice.

If a CPU gets up to 60 C you've got a problem. At idle, somewhere in the high 30s to low 40s is good, so it sounds like you fixed it. Why C? Well, why not? The biggest issue with switching to C from F is "I don't have any idea what that number _feels_ like..." But does it really help you to know that the CPU was at 122 degrees F? I'm a Farenheit guy for the weather, but since you've got to learn what ranges are safe for a CPU anyway, why not learn it in C?
On a side note, if they listed video card temps in farenheit it would give people heart attacks. My card doesn't display a warning until it hits 122 C (252 F!!) If you're really curious, type "40 degrees C to F" into google, and it'll convert for you :-)

In windows, LAN CONNECTION PROBLEM
Ok loaded windows, and seems to be working fine.
First thing I wanted to do before I load software into the system, is go on the internet and get all the updates for windows. Have DSL with a router that I plugged into one of LAN ports on the striker extreme. Now I am used to just plugging lan cable in and the computer just finds the setting and away I go on the internet. But evently not on a complete new build. When I plug my cable in, I get an orange light at lan, but no connection to internet. I tried setting up a connection, tried to build home office thru wizzard, I almost slung it into the internet. I must be missing some driversor putters or something,, Does any one have any Idea what to try next>>>>>>>>> |

Did you install the LAN drivers? They should be on the motherboard CDRom. Also install the Video card drivers and any "chipset" drivers before you get much further.

Here's a good tip, in my opinion I think you should watch the temp on your mobo, CPU, and GPU, since it is a new build, and find the temps that they all idle at, and what temps they run at when you're playing a game or something. Just to see if there are any abnormalities.
Do that for 1-2 weeks, and progressivily check the temps every month or two to make sure everything is running correctly (with 4 GB of RAM I think I would reccommend a heat spreader for your RAM sticks: That might just be me though) |

I believe you've already fixed your heat problem. And if it overheats, I think you learned the frustrating way that the comp will simply shut down to protect itself. So no worries there.
You shouldn't need heatspreaders simply because of the amount of ram. If you start overclocking and pushing voltages above the recommended values, then you'll need them. |

Ok Thanks for all the advice. system is up and running soon after I loaded the support CD with the drivers, then loaded the video driver, (DU) Ran all updats and loaded software. Have all temps posted on my desk top, IN F reading. CPU pretty much stays 75 to 90 F, MB runns higher around 95 to 104 F. I see the room tempatures really effect the temps to.
Thanks for all the help. |
