Help booting new system

I recently decided to build a new computer, but I've run into a problem. After I got everything ready to boot, and turned it on, everything powered up, but there wasn't any video output. I'm not using a video card, so I took a video card from another computer, and that wouldn't work either. The monitor just stays in standby (the monitor i'm using right now). Any help's greatly appreciated.

Welcome to PCMech.

To start out with, the memory and motherboard you've selected are not of high quality. Those could be your problem to start out with. I'm guessing you shopped at TigerDirect.

What is your power supply make and model?

I agree totally with newbuilder14. The memory and motherboard are no good.
Tigerdirect own brands are junk. I highly recommend you send them back and get an Asus motherboard and either Kingston or Corsair memory.

Before condemning any components, follow the steps in this thread

Folks, all we can do is advise people not to buy that junk before they buy it. After the fact, let's do all we can to try to get it working. It doesn't feel good to come here for help and all we do is tell them they bought junk. We know better, but the average new builder has no clue that Tiger's ad writers are very creative and how bad that company really is. You DO realize that Newegg also sells substandard components such as that, right? Not everything with the Rosewill name on it is quality and they sell PC Chips motherboards.

Frankie, follow FK's advice, please report back with the results.

I just tried that and nothing happened. The screen remained in standby, which means the memory's bad? I understand that I haven't bought the nicest equipment, but I'm not looking to have 4 gb of ram and play new high tech advanced graphics games. I'm not sure where to go from here.

No, it doesn't necessarily mean the memory is bad, but it does mean that at least one of your core components is defective - assuming that EVERY component is fully seated in its slots, and that you have connected both the 20 pin main power connector, AND the 4 pin auxiliary power connector the motherboard (double and triple check these things).

What are you using for a power supply (brand and model)?

Could be memory or PSU; do you have access to a spare of either of these? You DO have the motherboard out of the case, right? (sorry, sometimes people decide not to bother with that part; it really is important :-)

*EDIT* FK is right, could be processor or motherboard as well. (I figure the vid card's not the issue; you tried two of them.)

I've triple checked everything to make sure it's in place. The power supply is brand new, i just got it with a new case. The link to the case is http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...578&CatId=1847
It just says 450 watt ps. Yes, i took the motherboard out. Its super frustrating, not getting this to work right.

The PSU in that case is low quality, as are the power supplies you get in the majority of cases. I wouldn't use it for a system, but unless it's Dead on Arrival, it *shouldn't* stop the system from booting.

Something to try. With the system assembled as detailed in the thread, connect a case speaker (if this is part of the case, position the case so the wire from the front panel will reach to the motherboard header), and remove both the RAM and the video card if you have one installed. The system SHOULD beep multiple times in error. If it does not, I'd say you had a faulty motherboard, though there's no way you can be 100% certain.

Out of interest, do you have another power supply you can swap in to test with?

OK, then at this point I'd look into returning the motherboard. Can't be 100% certain that this is your faulty component, but to not beep when the RAM is removed would suggest that it is, in fact, DOA.

I'd consider returning it for a refund, if you can, and buying a quality alternative from ASUS.
