Random shutdown
HELP! New build, booted first time no problem. Loaded operating system fine. System just randomly logs off. The build consist of Intel 6300 cpu, intel DP965lt motherboard, 2G Mushkin ram, Antec 500 watt power supply, Western Digital 320G Sata HD, Samsung DVD writer, XFX 7600GS vid card, XP Pro. I shut the auto restart off in the control panel hoping to get error screen, no effect.

50c is not bad but a bit high for idle. Double check that the CPU heatsink is locked in at all 4 corners. Check that the 24 pin and 4 pin power connectors are in and fully seated. Check in the BIOS to see what the voltages are,should be with-in 5%.

The voltages all check good, the heatsink appears to be seated and all the connectors are seated. I disconnected the switch from the motherboard and the system has been running longer than it ever has without rebooting. Maybe its just a bad switch?

Are you talking about the case switch for power on/off? If so, could use the reset switch if the case has one. If the case switch is the problem, could be the wires are pinched and shorting to the case or bad switch/etc.

Another Bad MB?
I am having a similar problem where the is no post, but I don't have a green light on my MB to show it has power. The power supply came with my barebones system and I was using it in another computer for a short while before putting it back in the barebones. The MB doesnt beep and the monitor never recieves a signal. Neither usb mice or serial( analog?) seem to receive power.
Can the MB post with bad ram and/ or bad cpu? I have all brand new components: corsair 240pin ddr2 ram and the processor is an AMD X2, when we pulled out the processer there was plenty of heatsink paste and no bent pins (I installed it orginally). I am sending the barebones back to new egg and they say they will send it back to me if it is found to be not defective. I am pretty sure that the motherboard has a bad component specifically the VGA/ video output. Does this sound reasonable? Last edited by notantisocial; 02-28-2007 at 12:59 PM. |
