Intel DG965WH Motherboard ICH & MCH temp sensors

If you are building-up a PC using an Intel DG965WH motherboard please be aware
that the MCH and ICH temperature sensors do not provide accurate temperature
indications, at least with BIOS version MQ96510J.86A.1618.2007.0117.1535
(the latest version as I write this).

I just spoke with a guy at Intel and their motherboard is giving them exactly the
same (and unchanging) temperatures for MCH and ICH as I'm getting on mine.

They got their temperature readings straight out of the BIOS setup routine
(the 'Advanced' tab), exactly as I've been reading them for my board.

Both of us see :

ICH Temperature 48.00 C (never changes)
MCH Temperature 46.26 C (never changes)

The guy at Intel and I were guessing that it might be that the current
BIOS can't access the MCH and ICH readings but that's just a guess.

(Before I found out that their board was reading exactly the same as mine I was
wondering if the A/D converters in my board for those sensors were bad but
with the board at Intel's Tech Support reading exactly the same that doesn't
seem possible - that's why I'm now suspicious about the BIOS being unable
to access those sensors.)

When I first brought-up my board I believe that BIOS wasn't reading the auxiliary
fan speed but now, after flashing the latest BIOS, the aux fan speed is visible.
When I first woke the board up I was so busy checking other things that I didn't
critically look at the fans so don't place 100% reliability in that comment ....
but I think it's correct. This gives me some hope that at some time in the future,
with a later version of BIOS, we may be able to read ICH & MCH temperatures.

hi,
the latest bios seems to have fixed the ich temperature problem..

unfortunately, it revealed that my ich temps jump up to as high as 70 C, doesnt really matter whether on idle or load.

but on the other hand, dont u find the inability to enable or disable fan-speed control a bit surprising?
