can't boot new machine

Hi
I have been building a new machine and tried to boot today with no success.
Asrock ALive NF6G-DVI BIOS P1.30
CPU AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 4000+
1 Gb DDR11 667 in a single stick so running as single channel
Hitachi HDT725025ULA380 V5DOA52A SATA11 250Gb hard drive

I don't get any beeps though I am pretty certain I have connected the internal speaker properly.
Post starts, recognizes DVD drive memory and hard drive (but not floppy which doesn't initiate)
but then freezes.
the last message on screen is:
"Ultra DMA Mode-6, S.M.A.R.T. capable but disabled"
00A1 shows at bottom right of screen
I have downloaded a utility to set up the Hitachi and also a Bios upgrade but can do nothing with either until the DVD or Floppy works
Hope someone can advise

What are you using for a power supply?

The power supply is a basic 400Wunit that came supplied with the case, nothing special but seems to do the job.

After a sleepless night and several gallons of coffee I have solved the problem, as is so often the case it was a silly little thing in the end.

I had downloaded a pdf from Asrock site with instructions for Bios upgrade but not read it as I couldn't get that far, eventually I did and noticed that they recommended disabling the "cool & quiet" feature in Bios first. I did that on the off chance it might help and Bingo! everything came to life.

Perhaps that little piece of info may save someone else a sleepless night
