The only thing I was wondering is if we need better RAM..., would it be wise to upgrade to DDR 2 1000\pc8000 instead of the ddr 2 800? What i am trying to say, is, would there be a difference I can notice? And yes, I'm crazy and want 4 GB RAM, is the not recommended? Also, would it be wise to buy a Antec P180 with a new psupply, or is the sonata just good enough. Thanks guys |

Don't SLI two low end cards, its not worth it. Drop down to a solid board like the Asus P5B and use one 7600GS as a placeholder for a future upgrade. The eVGA mobos are very unstable and problematic.
No need for 4GB of ram, XP can only use 3.2GB. Stay with 2GB.

This is a workstation right? Why not a Intel chipset with onboard video coupled with seagate 7200.10 hard drives? The only time I would honestly pair a videocard up with a workstation is if your doing 3D/cad/modeling work, and not with a normal video card.
And your better off with Corsair Valueselect. The processor will come with a heatsink fan assembly. Using an aftermarket one will void the warranty. Last edited by Mr.Ferrari; 03-04-2007 at 11:11 PM. |

If he's doing trading, he may want multiple monitors.
How many do you want? |

I would recommend an Intel chipset board - the most cost effective and stable way is a dual slot Asus P5B Deluxe and a pair of dual head cards running independently. The other option is a single slot board and a quad head workstation card - which is VERY pricey. SLI is for gaming and can only drive ONE monitor.
You want two Value Select DDR2-667 2gb dual channel kits. In the consumer line, I'd get ATI X1xxx cards, discrete memory models, not Hypermemory. This will be cheaper than FireGL's and will do the job fine. Look at 2 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131011 |

Hi GLC, thank you so much for your help.
Why should I get 667 instead of 800? is it because of the price difference, and is there a big increase of speed? I got P5B Deluxe in my cart now, thanks!! |

667 is all you need to run that processor at stock speeds. If you were over clocking, then 800 ram would make sense. Otherwise, save your money.

CORSAIR Value Select 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory - Retail $208
I bought this from newegg a while back and it is pretty good for the price. Just make sure your board can support ddr2 sdram memory |
