I'm not trying to start a processor war here, but a Core 2 Duo build will outperform that. You are also limiting future upgrades by using socket 939, good as it may be. Look at an E6600 on an Asus P5B series board with Corsair DDR2-667 or 800 ram. It's a bit early to be looking at 64 bit Vista - drivers can be a real headache. You will also have a better experience if you buy everything from a single quality vendor such as Newegg. Tiger Direct is not a quality vendor.

Hiya--

I'm a newbie here and am planning my own build for gaming and 3D modeling. The one suggestion I'm qualified to make is that you check carefully regarding your choice of video card with respect to the demands and idiosyncracies of your 3D app.

If you haven't already done so, it may be worth surfing around to 3D app forums like Renderosity to see what kinds of issues pertain to your 3D app(s) and various gaming cards. Based on my own chosen 3D apps and my desire to do gaming, I'm going with a Nvidia 7950GT.

Good luck, and I'm sure the actual experts here will weigh in on your proposed build soon.

[oops, glc already posted while I was drafting... so the experts have already arrived!]
