New build

Hey, I'm building my first computer and I'm wondering if I can get some help from people. I am wondering if I transfer my old HDD to my newly built computer if the OS will transfer as well or if I have to reload a new OS?

If the old computer is a brand name prebuilt like dell or the such, then most likely not. You'll need to buy a legal copy for your new computer.

You are going to be stuck with buying a new copy of Windows, that copy is tied to the eMachines hardware and cannot be transfered.

What do you intend using your new build for? gaming, office work, personal, video or music?
Do you have a budget in mind?

I already got a majority of the stuff I'm going to need, or at least I hope I did. I can't say that I have a purpose really, just a little bit of everything. I just wanted to upgrade my old crap computer and thought it might be interesting to try and build one. Once I got all the stuff put together I realized that I didn't have an actual OS on disc anymore. I really didn't feel like buying one so I was hoping my old one would transfer.

Can you give us a list of what you have in the way of hardware so that we can see if the parts are all compatible with one another.
