I want to test my computer's power, but the computer will not power up. I know the problem is not the power supply because I connected it to my old computer and it worked fine when I hit the power button. In my new build I connected all the front panel wires to the pins on the MOBO but, when I flip the power switch on the power supply, only the little orange light on the MOBO pops up to let me know that power is flowing. When hitting the power button on the front panel to turn on the machine, nothing happens. I don't know what is up
My hardware is Foxconn C51XEM2AA- 8EKRS2H Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 AMD AThlon X2 5200+ Socket AM2 Zalman CNPS9500 EVGA 8800FTS 640mb Integrated sound OCZ GameXtreme 700 Watt SLI-Ready Antec 900 ATX Mid-Tower I am thinking it MIGHT be the power button on the case not working, but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated |

I read through the entire sticky thread but nothing in there helped me. I tried taking it out of the case, but to no avail. I tried shorting the power using a screwdriver on the pins, but that didnt even turn on the computer. Maybe the MOBO is damaged?

Well, it's motherboard, ram, video, or power supply - or you didn't connect everything correctly.
Remove the video card and ram - leaving just the CPU with heatsink installed. The board SHOULD start if it, the CPU, and the power supply are okay. |

Okay I removed the ram and the video card, but nothing happens. So it is probably the mobo that is not working

One potential issue...motherboard CPU support table doesn't list the 5200+ X2.
http://www.foxconnchannel.com/upload...EA01620add.htm If you had access to a lesser CPU, you could try it and see if it works.

Okay, It's a stupid question, but does the processor need to be in place for the power to come on? This is my first build so I don't know everything about computers

Yes, the processor must be installed - with a heatsink/fan, and the fan connector must be plugged into the CPU Fan header. That's ALL it needs to at least fire up - that and a PSU with the 24 pin and the auxiliary 4 or 8 pin plugged in.

Okay I believe it is either a faulty CPU, MOBO, or both. Other people in te customer reviews use the 5200+ processor on this board, so I'm guessing the compatiblility list was made before the 5200+ was released.
